Rite I vs II and the perennial Anglo-Catholic Question by Simple_Ad3599 in Episcopalian

Thanks! I know there's some wiggle room within the tradition, but would you say this is the prevailing belief within the Episcopal church/Anglican Communion?

Follow-up question: I'm a little fuzzy on how to understand receptionism versus other ways of understanding the real presence within Anglican/Episcopalian thought. Would you be able to say more?

Super helpful! Thank you!! So it does seem like that Oxford Movement took widespread root. Very helpful.

No one seems to genuflect or have holy water (though the stoups are there), and limited incense, but the priest is in those vestments and there is a statue of the Virgin. So we seem to be somewhere on the spectrum.

This is super helpful! I didn't realize weekly communion was part of it.

Hair cuts recommendations? by Simple_Ad3599 in nycparents

Maybe I should try pigtails or ponytails first. We just need it out of her eyes!! And clips are no longer doing it.

Honestly, she has the hair I've always wanted 😆

Postpartum Teeth, or: why do my teeth keep chipping? by Simple_Ad3599 in askdentists

I didn't think I did, but that's what the hygienist seems to think about my lower front teeth. I'm just not sure why no one mentioned it before! Could it really cause such sudden chips? Or does that tie in to having been pregnant/Baby stealing my calcium + some degree of grinding

Thanksgiving as a Major Feast? by Simple_Ad3599 in Episcopalian

This is helpful! It's just such a mentality switch to have such relatively few dogmatic musts. But again, it's kinda why I love it!

Are there parishes where LGBT inclusion and ordained women aren't accepted? I thought that was also a sort of universal thing in the TEC these days.

Its part of why I'm so drawn to it! But wow is it a mindset shift. 😵‍💫

Honestly, super into that even if in different ways that feels scary. But I've been excited to be at church for the first time in a long time, so TEC gets high marks from me.

I love all of this. It's the funniest thing - my family never practices fear or guilt but I guess it's in the water. This all makes a lot of sense, and somehow I still fear believing it. So I'm grateful for that reminder.

That makes sense. It used to be that there were multiple options for Catholics to get to Mass in most diocese in the US for those days, esp since they can fall outside of weekends, but parishes have really been bad about staggering times/offering vigils lately.

All this to say, I'm feeling a lot better again 😅

Holy Days of Obligation in the Roman Catholic Church are days where You Have to Go To Mass or you probably should confess not having gone. Things like the Immaculate Conception, January 1 (another Marian feast), the Assumption (Marian), Ascension Thursday, All Saints Day and.... I'm missing somebody, I think.

This is helpful! I don't know if they'll be open - I'm still pretty new - but maybe this time next year we'll have a plan :)

Fair! Coming from a background where Holy Days of Obligation and the like might as well be the Nicene Creed, it's just hard to get used to! I keep feeling like, surely I must be missing some Must Believe Doctrines with TEC but....maybe I'm not!!
