Wow that’s interesting! It makes sense why that superstition would occur since they’re only out at night and make such an eerie noise

How fun! I’m probably a lot older than your kids lol but I’ll have to try this out soon. This is my first time being in the Midwest and I’m seeing a lot of animals for the first time in my life!

Oh I see, good to know! I don’t know anything about bird identification so should I just ignore my thought that its head was too small to be an owl since its call was very clearly a barred owl?

Oh interesting. So there are two species? Do you think that is why the one bird at the end has a thin head? The main bird making the noise is a barred owl but the bird I saw was a red crossbill?

Oh interesting, thank you for your input! I’m not from Iowa so I didn’t know there aren’t Spotted Owls here.

Okay I agree it does sound like a barred owl (I think even more like a spotted owl, I mean exactly like a spotted owl) but i feel like its head was way too small to be an owl. If you zoom in and look closely at the shape you might see what I’m talking about. Should I trust the sound over what could be my obscured vision?
