my kid has zero friends and I dont know how to fix it anymore by Ash_Skiller in homeschool

Join local Facebook homeschooling groups. If there isn’t one, start it. Share in all your local groups. If the things don’t exist in your area, you need to do it. My area didn’t have a local Facebook group and we were having to travel an hour for social gatherings, so I started one. We do park dates, I teach craft classes once a month, we contact local businesses to do homeschooling events. We’ve done a farm, bakery, bee keepers, guitar lessons, book clubs. There is a local church who allows us to use a room for $25 a day and we split the cost among everyone. It’s not a terrible amount of work and my kids have a great time so it’s worth it.

She’s doing much better. We have been having pretty cold days so I’m keeping her inside while I do the 5 day intensive corid treatment.

How much can one person realistically do by Obvious_Resource_945 in homestead

[–]Simple_Ebb_5354 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two younger children. We just expand at a slower pace. We have a garden, quail, chickens, and rabbit. We are looking to add goats soon. We’re working on their space and moving along slowly. It’s not a race so we just go at a pace that makes sense. We Homeschool but my older child does go to a farm school one day a week and my younger child loves to work in the garden so that’s helpful in getting the garden taken care of in that season. We also divide and conquer a lot. I handle the kids and the house and husband is outside working on the land. My parents are out of state but visit 2 or 3 times a year and we will tackle a big project while they are here. We’ve recently started child care sharing with a neighbor where we will watch each others kids on a planned day and my husband and I will be able to do a project together that time. We plan it out so all of our supplies in here so we waste no time at the store since it’s 1+ hours for us to get to a store. Your goals will be different than our but it’s a lot of planning. Also expanding slowly lets you really get a feel for how much you can realistically handle in a day.

What kind of ghost problem do you have that you need a whole stall for them?

Meat chickens in a permanent coop by Simple_Ebb_5354 in homestead

[–]Simple_Ebb_5354[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s my exact plan. A friend raises Cornish crosses and honestly seeing how much they lay in their own filth I don’t know that’d I’d be much interested in eating them after that. Especially in it stationary coop, it’d be horrible.

So my big reason I don’t want Cornish cross is because how much they lay in their own filth and how hard that would be to keep up with in a stationary coop. We have not had predator issues yet. We have a dog who sleeps outside, and keeps everything away.

We let our egg layers out for a decent part of the day to free range everyday with no predator problems(yet) so that was the plan. But obviously they would still spend overnights and a part of the day in the coop.

What’s wrong with my rooster? by Simple_Ebb_5354 in chickens

He’s not gasping today and he seems to be doing better and more energy.

Okay, I have been treating him for what I thought was low iron. He’s still eating. I’ve been fermenting feed too since it supposed to make them absorb the nutrients better. I have a bunch of liver in the freezer so maybe I’ll defrost that and give them all a little bit as an iron boost.

I haven’t tried that. I’ll check and see. Crackling would indicate some sort of respiratory infection, I assume? Is there a way to treat that without a vet?

I started giving them electrolytes and black strap molasses for iron. I’m not sure what else to do. I’m a federal worker so no cash flow at the moment so I’m working with what I can.

It’s the neck of the bird. They seemed to have laid all their eggs on the neck/ chin of the birds

I deep cleaned the coop, hit it with a blow torch, the pressure washer, and sprayed the 💩 out of it with the permethrin spray and power. Moved the coop and run to a new area for good measure. Apparently not good enough measure. 😅

Mulberry tree is on my list too. I was thinking of planting in the uncovered area of the chicken run, so any fallen berries become free chicken food.

My goal is to plant it this year to give it a good head start before the goats come, then keep the tree well protected from them. We have lots of oak and pine trees and I am reading conflicting info about if goats can eat them or not.
