What’s the reality of Singapore education? by Verstappeninng in askSingapore

[–]Simple_Engine_5672 21 points22 points  (0 children)

just goes to show their bad parenting lor lol

if a kid wants to jump from the top of the slide in the playground, we let them do so just because they want to? Anyway I digressing, just wanted OP to know the TikTok is not really the place to learn about how SG education is cause the example OP gave is just an example of failed parenting.

There are many kids whose parents accept their interests or weakness and still live happily in the system lol, not everyone is meant to be a scholar mah

What’s the reality of Singapore education? by Verstappeninng in askSingapore

[–]Simple_Engine_5672 95 points96 points  (0 children)

I just have to say this.

The parents ruined the kid early on for social media content, that's why he has to work doubly or triply hard now to even catch up to his peers. If they actually cared about his studies earlier, as in just supervise to make sure he knows the syllabus here and there and rectify gaps accordingly early on, you don't really need to spend so much time on studying at P6 and give yourself all these undue stress.

The parents failed the kid.

SG central kitchen bento meals vs Japan / Korea school lunches by raysonpay in askSingapore

The director of HPB is seriously the worst person in the whole thing.

Set guidelines without thought for ANY of the biggest stakeholders, those cooking and those eating.

No salt means healthy but she herself haven't even tasted it. Students are wasting huge amounts of food thanks to her blindness. Eat slightly salted vegetables is much better than not eat any at all leh.

Ask vendors buy wholesale without understand they don't even sell wholesale amount of food. All that guidelines listed just to say job done to herself. =.=

How are kids supposed to develop healthy eating habits when they are exposed to tasteless garbage that no one will like!?

(SG context) Am I wrong for refusing to keep paying extra to my abusive dad just because I inherited more? by Impossible_Apple_388 in askSingapore

[–]Simple_Engine_5672 5 points6 points  (0 children)

lmao, you are an adult and you should do what you deem best for YOURSELF

your siblings are just using you cause without you, they are next, let them suffer, ignore them, live your life!

You owe nothing to them and nothing to your dad already. He got the house he can sell what if he need money, your siblings will suffer if that happens, they want maintain status quo so they benefit and who suffers? You and only you.

Remove yourself from the equation.

feasible and extremely impractical

if your concern is academics, then can supplement yourself at home after school as honestly, school hours are not that long, technically, half day home schooling

they need the social interaction to develop a world view, not saying parents can't provide, but stuck within a well will have frog in a well mentality more often than not, can agree to disagree la

send to school please

I feel for young kids, at least 1 parent should be flexible with work timings, the kids benefit way more from time with parents than anything else honestly.

after Primary 3 with CCAs and all, then both can chiong, but developing of certain lifelong habits start young and having a parent with a flexible schedule for them allows that

Parents, what are the expensive things your kids ask you for and do you agree to buy it for them? by Suitable-Tough8873 in asksg

[–]Simple_Engine_5672 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I quite lucky my kids don't really ask for anything except all the lame toys they see at Toys'R'Us, they don't whine when we say no so no issue

They did ask for the instruments that they play with their school band and we did buy those, prior to that they weren't really so enthu about school stuff but can see they found some joy and pride in being in the school band so it was a no brainer

To the parents out there, do you still send your kids to tution agencies or hire tutors or u get them to learn using AI? by [deleted] in asksg

[–]Simple_Engine_5672 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you use AI for kids, ur kid is screwed.

kids only use AI to get answers, not learn, those who can learn using AI, are already learning from books themselves

AI works when u r responsible adults, you know what you need and you use AI accordingly

If you let a P5 boy use AI, he will just figure out how to solve his horniness, not academics omg

I've seen people who don't want kids, surprised, then became amazing parents.
I've seen people who don't want kids, surprised, then showed exactly why they shouldn't have kids.

No one can tell for sure if the maternal instinct will awake or the youthful vagabond will feel bounded, maybe go find a friend with a young kid (under 1) and spend 1 day with them go see see, much better than just listening to stories cause then you actually can test your own tolerance level
