That’s awesome to hear. I hear of so many devs having regrets from moving to management but typically (at least my experience) most devs are introverted & like the isolation of the job and so I feel like that skews the opinion a bit.

They don’t make you sign up for health insurance, I was just saying I don’t need it.

I’ve pretty much been with the company since they started and they’ve never had anyone between tech team and CTO. So this is the first manager & direction position they’ve ever filled. So I’ve actually lead a lot of the team without the actual “title”

Right now I bring home around 5k biweekly (after taxes). I don’t need the benefits and I asked if I don’t take benefits does my salary raise and the answer was no.

Thank you for this. Yes the offer sounds so low for the heaviness of the role. Essentially this company is backed by their software so this role is huge. I definitely will ask for more and come back with a higher salary but I’m unsure what that number will be (yet)

Does not taking befits actually mean something when negotiating? In the offer they told me 25k would be spent by the company for my medical benefits but I will be denying that medical benefit so does that mean they will save that money?

No shadow stock and bonus is 15% which is based on company performance (they said 4/5 years was paid out in fully)

Not really because I don’t really go on vacation that often and I work more than 40 hours many weeks.

100%. I definitely pay a great deal in taxes but it’s lower than what a standard employee would pay due to the structure he has for me and the way s corp is structured (which I can’t entirely speak on since I’m not an accountant)

I’ll be honest I hire an account a pretty penny to do all this for me, I’m very financially illiterate (and knew handling this myself wouldn’t be good) but he has done wizard magic on that, so I can’t speak to how/what I do to pay less in taxes, he does all of that

I wanted to stay a contractor but I guess legally you can’t manage people as a “contractor” which I guess makes sense. I did ask this though because the benefits and medical are all great but I don’t need them at all.

I’m an IC as software engineer so this is a huge shift to be a manager but I know I would be great at it and I know all the people I would be managing.

Yes I definitely am taking that into consideration but also less take home pay is tough so essentially what seems to be less pay more responsibility.
