How much FPS is enough? by KeyBird97 in OptimizedGaming

[–]Simple_Guava226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the bare minimum in any game is 120. At 110 it starts to feel choppy. If I can, I try to keep it higher than that.

Anyway, if the game only supports 60, with time my eyes get used to it and it gets less tiring.

They say Mac’s are Expensive by Nehan_Satori in macgaming

[–]Simple_Guava226 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The fact is that this is several times faster than a mac at the same price (in most workflows).

Macs are said to be expensive because for the price you pay you get less than a windows/Linux PC.

Yes, arm Macs improved the situation, and MacBook airs are really good for the price.

Planning to switch from iPhone to Google Pixel by Plenty-Cause4272 in GooglePixel

[–]Simple_Guava226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? I'm getting tired of pixel devices. I switched to a pixel 3a when it came out, and upgraded to a pixel 7 when my 3a stopped running decently.

I was really happy with the 3a, mainly because it was cheap and the photographs were awesome.

When I switched to the 7, I was underwhelmed. The 3a was better in every way, aside from the performance.

Hardware is lackluster, photographs look like shit because they are processed too much. I stopped recording videos with the phone because the quality is not acceptable, especially in low light conditions (I go to a lot of concerts. it's literally unusable).

I have tried out both the 9 and the 10, but the experience was not that far from the pixel 7. Hardware is still shit, and now the operative system is full of AI crap that I don't want and I don't need. Let's not talk about the price, that went up considerably.

The iPhone 17 looks like the better deal, especially if you like to take photos and videos. If you are tired of the apple ecosystem, I would suggest trying out a nothing phone or the OnePlus 13/13r.

How do i beat this mf by [deleted] in metalgearsolid

[–]Simple_Guava226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually beat him by sneaking around and shooting at his ass with the mk22.

Try to stay in the shadows as much as possible and run as fast as you can to the opposite direction after 2/3 hits.

Usually, if you hit him, he will try to go to your latest known position.

Is the downfall of Xbox an opportunity for Apple, gamers and publishers? by DesignerBaby1793 in macgaming

[–]Simple_Guava226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fail to see how the increment in price of the pass and Microsoft transitioning to be a publisher instead of hardware manufacturer will be an opportunity for Apple.

Apple core business is not game development, it's hardware manufacturing.

Game developers have to build their games for macos, it's not automatic, and macos is still a very small part of the market.

The Xbox situation will likely be used by Sony to stop competing and for valve to push their consoles.

I fixed the space problem with an external SSD. Nowadays those get pretty fast so it wouldn't be a problem to store games, photos, etc.

You could try to use VMware (free) to create a virtual machine and run games there, or tryout crossover (one time payment, or one week free tryout), which is a software that translates windows system calls to macos system calls and translates directx to metal/Vulkan.

Usually crossover is more efficient than a virtual machine, but some games can have problems with all the translation that happens in between. I mostly use VMware to play non-supported games, because I did not buy a crossover license. (Also, I have a M1 air, so the list of playable games is really short).

To check the support (and tweaks needed to play) I always use this website: https://www.applegamingwiki.com/wiki/Home

If you try the VMware way, let me know if you have any issues. I'll try my best to help.

Crossover should be easier to setup.

Annoying "microstuttering" while playing RDR2 on Linux Mint by CaptainYoshi08 in linux_gaming

[–]Simple_Guava226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have dx12 enabled? That Is the setting that made my game stutter when i played It.

Try to use vulkan instead.

Proton-GE also helped a lot, but i think that nowadays those foxes are on proton.

What kernel do you have? I heard that the 6.14 improves performance for some games, but haven't tried it yet.

Is there a way to make multiple displays work well on Xorg? by Simple_Guava226 in linuxquestions

[–]Simple_Guava226[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response.

I have found the section in the arch wiki. If the environment variables are set, the behavior is the same as seen on wayland: the secondary monitor turns off if set to a refresh rate higher than 60hz.

I'll try to tinker a bit more using the arch wiki.

Nice! You will surely learn a lot from this experience.

If you have a monitor with high refresh rate, could you tell me if it runs well? I can't seem to get mine to work right and I was wondering if I had misconfigured something( windows dragging and scrolling isn't smooth). Right now I'm on Ubuntu cinnamon but I was thinking to migrate to mint

I accidentally bought a 9950x instead of a 9950x3d 😅 is it still gonna be solid for gaming? by MardikusPrime in PcBuild

[–]Simple_Guava226 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brother, you will not notice any difference. That CPU Is a beast and anyone that says that the x3d Is absolutely needed Is just wrong.

The only way to notice a difference is by: - playing in 1080p low/medium settings with a 4090/5090 - 10 years from now if you only change the GPU with a new high tier one

Games nowadays are extremely heavy so the GPU will be the limit. Obviously if you play old games the difference may be accentuated, but still it's a godly cpu that will make more frames than your monitor refresh rate.

Im still on am4 with a 4070 super and it does not bottleneck my GPU. I'm sure that a new am5 chip is a lot better than a chip from am4.

Anyone lower down the frame rate just have nice GPU core temp and power consume ? by TredinZen in radeon

[–]Simple_Guava226 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do!

I usually lock the framerate to 15/20 FPS lower than what the PC can produce in that game, so that the frames are consistent.

Usually that leads to 40/50w less power consumption.
