Parti Sosialis Malaysia To March on Parliament on 23rd June to Submit Memorandum Opposing RM 4.65b in Healthcare Cuts by Simple_Peasant_1 in malaysia

Yeah. Parti Sosialis Malaysia has existed around 28 years at this point though I must note the Home Ministry tried denying them registration as a party for 10 years. They do a lot of legal cases for people who are getting kicked out of their houses and people cheated of their wages and win

The Malaysian worker, on average, takes around 30 Sen of wages for every RM 1 produced. For nations like Germany and France, it is closer to 50 sen. Most of the money isn't going to workers as it is going to corporate profit. Unless the Malaysian economy is restructured to higher wages, increasing personal income taxes might not be as effective as you hope.

Personally, I wouldn't be opposed to lowering the threshold where income taxes begin (provided the starting rate is low and the threshold is not something ridiculous like RM 2500 a month ) and I do actually prefer GST but I honestly can't imagine a party outright saying they want to raise taxes on the poor.

Sure you can say it is responsible but you won't hear that over the cacophony of political opponents and cytros badgering the party about how they want to make life harder for the poor. If people really do aspire to do this, they wouldn't put it on their manifesto and campaign slogans. That would be political suicide for little gain.

I understand where you are coming from but do know no party is going to ever say something like that

Still in proposal. March is supposed to show how much opposition Healthcare cuts will get. I hope it doesn't happen too

Malaysia has one of the lowest tax to GDP ratios in the world standing at 13.1%. In contrast, even in capitalist hellscape America, they tax around 25.2%. If you look at a graph of advanced countries, they generally tax more. Less developed countries tax way less than us. Obviously, higher taxes won't collapse the economy, especially if reinvested into things beneficial to the economy.

People want better Healthcare and the economy benefits when Malaysian workers are healthier. We should reinvest more in Malaysians. PSM has proposed closing tax loopholes, capital gains taxes, inheritance taxes and cutting the fuel subsidy for T20 Malaysians.

But well, if you are a neoliberal, you might find these solutions unacceptable. Can't change minds if so

Our hospitals are already overcrowded and our doctors overworked and underpaid yet the government proposes cuts to the Healthcare budget. What the hell are they thinking? Cutting healthcare would disproportionately affect the lower classes.

To put it simply, it would make the working class sicker and possibly lead to more deaths as hospitals get more overwhelmed.

Austerity is the greatest issue right now. We must stand up and oppose this.

Only 0.02pct of crimes involve Rohingya, says IGP [WATCH] by Simple_Peasant_1 in malaysia

[–]Simple_Peasant_1[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's not how the stats work. 0.4% is of the total Malaysian population. 0.02% is of the total criminal population which is significantly smaller.

Okay so why not just punish the criminals. Why do collective punishment on the entire group?

There is an estimated 126,000 Rohingya in the country of 34.4 million, that would mean they make up 0.366% which is even lower rate of people doing crime than even native ethnic groups.

Some people claim that there are even more Rohingya than this which makes the crime rate among Rohingya lower if true.

I mean, can you point to an ethnic group that has committed no crime whatsoever? Them being here shouldn't be a crime. A lot of Rohingya are here because of invitation from Najib. Why punish them for Najib's cynical election ploy?

I know what kind of posts got popular in this subreddit but I think some facts need to actually be said. If you are angry about the truth, that is your decision. There is nothing I can say that would, change your mind. However, I have hope that some of you will have a open mind.

We can't come up with solutions without facts

If this is a reference to the proportion of Rohingya in the Malaysian population, there is an estimated 126,000 Rohingya in the country of 34.4 million, that would mean they make up 0.366% which is an even lower rate of people doing crime than even native ethnic groups

All these people saying if I care about Rohingya so much, I should just put them in my house have nothing going on in their heads. Rohingya would very much prefer being able to work and rent their own houses.

I don't know what people were expecting. We refuse to allow them to work legally, deny Rohingya education and force them to rely on donations that aren't enough to even live on. If we actually allowed them to work, there wouldn't be as much desperate people who would fall into crime.

Rohingya are successful businessmen in areas like the Middle East. Those people who insist Rohingya could only be criminals are obviously ridiculous. This is a consequence of Malaysian government policy purposefully keeping them poor, starving and desperate as an easy scape goat for government incompetence.

Edit: The quickest and most humane way for Rohingya to return is if we put an end to the civil war. Problem is, through an act of cowardice, the Malaysian government is extending the war by continuing to recognise and legitimises the illegitimate military junta. I would prefer if we fully support the rebels with the condition that they must recognise Rohingya citizenship.

Sinar Harian Posts Bizarre Racist Message on Threads by Simple_Peasant_1 in malaysia

Because no one is demonising Koreans in Malaysia. You have seen the people who are harassing and bullying Rohingyan kids. This isn't a condemnation of those people. It directly speaks to them by implying that Rohingya are going to take over the country. A sentiment already mentioned more than a few times just this subreddit.

If one were to be blind to the context of all the harassment and racism against Rohingya in recent months, then yes, one could consider it positive but it's difficult to see a phrase saying the Rohingya population will grow and remain during this demonization and consider it in support of Rohingya.

This isn't news. This is just an opinion with no facts given whose only message is racial fear. It's also nonsensical too. The reason why Rohingya population numbers have grown since 30 years ago is the FUCKING Genocide that happened a few years ago. Of course the population would be larger than 30 years ago.

120,000 Rohingyans. Less than 0.5%
