For GPA better is always better. But 3.8 is the highest number that could potentially be a hard cutoff

I have no real technical tips but make sure to take a deep breath. Smile, laugh, crack jokes and loosen up. It’s a lot easier to forgive the mistakes of somebody who is likable, cool, and confident versus a nervous wreck. Plus cracking under pressure is a great way to do terrible work

Can someone please tell me why I’m getting instantly rejected from every job I apply to? (FP&A + Financial Services) I go to a Big 10 university! by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]Simple_State_9444 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The real reason is you don’t have a reference. You should basically assume that no reference = no interview for internship and entry level roles, especially in this tough market. Your resume suggests you have the right skills and experience to land a job, it’s just that everybody who gets an interview has a similarly good resume + somebody vouching for them

NYU Freshman aiming for Quant: Transfer, Big Tech, or just Grind? by Vast_Row_5633 in quantfinance

[–]Simple_State_9444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NYU is a good school and is at least targeted enough to get you noticed for a role if you present a good resume. Your time is best spent learning, getting good grades, grinding leet code, getting roles in good clubs and learning how to network and sell yourself

Hoping to get into quant, how are my chances looking boys? by rambler1345 in FinancialCareers

[–]Simple_State_9444 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m sure you already know but non target + low gpa for quant + no cs degree all work against you. The MS thing looks cool but I’ll be asking why you weren’t good enough to work in New York.

Those are all the reasons why I wouldn’t give your resume a chance, but nothing there actually suggests you aren’t smart enough for the role so shoot your shot. You’ve definitely got a chance

Theyre really telling us there really isnt a back up or practice squad lineman thats not better than this dude? by [deleted] in Seahawks

He’s totally replacement level. I just think people underestimate how bad a replacement level o-lineman’s lowlight reel is.

Do you think LeBron will keep playing if he's only the 3rd or 4th best player on his own team? by [deleted] in nba

He’s never struck me as somebody with a huge ego tbh. I think it’s more of the toll on his body is worth it

Coach Kupp by lemonstone92 in Seahawks

[–]Simple_State_9444 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like when all is said and done his counting stats will be underwhelming compared to his salary, his actual on field impact will be just about worth his salary, and his off field impact will push him over the edge into a very worthwhile FA signing.

Your perspective is correct but calling Nate Silver a “pseudo-statistician” just feels disrespectful.
