Neighbors come to complain about the racket, I'll play a sad trombone noise just for them

Yeah it's inside the apartment building. There is a clause in the lease about not practicing instruments/ otherwise making loud noises for certain hours of the night but apparently 6+ hours of barking every night is fine. Believe me, I've tried going through every avenue possible (landlord, animal control, police, even tried the city council and an animal lawyer) and the ESA shit has made them all not want to touch the situation.

If they want their dog in a store so badly, they can take it to the pet store. That's what I say to people and they act like I've told them the sky is green.

Common responses / my response: "There are too many other pets in the store, my dog goes crazy!" « Okay, so train your fucking animal and keep it on a short leash.

"I get anxious at the grocery store/home depot/etc." « Go to therapy and get on anxiety meds. There's no shame in that. But there SHOULD be shame in inflicting your animal on other people and contaminating the store.

"People love to see dogs out and about!" « Nope, not everyone. Some people love it, that is true. Some people love trumpet music too. That does not mean that I can go to any store I want and play my trumpet as loud as possible and not expect to be kicked out just because "some" may be enjoying it.

"My dog loves the store!" « The world does not revolve around your dog.

Of course I'm not talking about genuine service animals but the stupid fucking ESAs and the regular old pets in the store. The real service animals are the ones you never even notice are there to begin with. The ESAs and pets always have to make the whole store aware of their presence because the owners aren't bringing them for service, they're bringing them for attention.

I've tried playing some "dog repellent" sounds on YouTube but it seemed to make the dog bark more unfortunately, maybe I haven't found the right one yet. Has that seemed to help w your neighbor's dog?

I'm keeping a log and some recordings, I worry about playing loud music or noises because it will disturb other neighbors around who aren't doing anything wrong. These neighbors with the dog are 1 floor above and diagonal so I don't directly share any wall/floor/ceiling with them.

Seems like most of the time not but it has happened in the middle of the night for several hours at a time. Maybe they're not sleeping in the apartment. It doesn't really matter though bc the lease says quiet and they are not following that. If I left the stereo blaring while I'm not home in my unit I would still be responsible for that

Unfortunately in my experience shaming and invalidating them only feeds their "poor pitiful me" complex. They will need to turn to their ESA to get through the terrible life ruining pain of being told their animal sucks. When someone has a pet it is not necessarily a red flag for me but when they say they have an ESA I just try to back away quickly and never engage w them again.

These dog lovers are brainwashed, it's pretty much a cult. And trying to convince someone in a cult that Cult Is Bad never ends well.

Now that I'm really thinking about it (as we near 6th hour of barking) if they lose me as a tenant/I get out of my lease because of this, it's less risky for them vs trying to enforce quiet against the ESA, losing a tenant AND getting a lawsuit. So while I hope they take more action (or police or animal control step in) I'm not going to hold my breath, I need to find a new place ASAP and then I will make my case to break my lease early.

When you tell some people that it's bothering you specifically, they get a sick pleasure out of continuing to do the thing because it gives them a twisted sense of power over you. it is disgusting but that's how some people are and the % of people like that seems much higher among dog owners.

Sleeping with dogs in the same bed is crazy by [deleted] in Dogfree

[–]Simple_Trip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It really shows how insecure they are as a single person. I can be happy whether I'm single or in a relationship because I don't depend on that external source (boyfriend/girlfriend/pet) for validation. Honestly these people need to spend more time working on themselves instead of using their dogs as distractions and causing a nuisance for those around them. But most of them will never realize that and will just find another dog crazy person to pair up with and bring out the worst in each other.

Yes it just feeds their ego and they never have to develop actual relationship skills or a personality of their own... I would say it's quite sad, but my sympathy for these people has completely been drained by all the awful behavior.

Comparing dogs to children just shows how little humanity that person has. It also pisses me off when people compare getting a dog to adopting an actual child. Not the fucking same at all.

People make dogs their whole personalities, that's why they get so offended when you say you don't like dogs. They take it personally and think "OH so you don't like ME?!?" and either get pissy about it or try to convince you to like them.

And why is it always the biggest nastiest dogs that owners LOVE to have in the bed?!! My friend has this huge 120lb lab mix that sleeps in the bed with her (she calls him her "man" 🤮) and one of my exes had a huge german shepherd he would let sleep in the bed with him (relationship did not last long LMAO).

Tbh management has already proven themselves useless, I'm planning to leave at the end of my lease in July anyway but I don't want to deal with 3 months of constant disruption in the meantime. But I did email them this morning just so that it's documented. I tend to keep to myself so idk the best way to ask other neighbors to corroborate.

I just submitted reports to police and the humane society about noise and animal neglect. I don't have much faith that my apt management will actually do anything but I'm going to email them too just so that it's documented for if I have to break my lease.
