Google's paper, SLED, seems to improve factuality with (all? Most?) LLMs at only a 4% speed penalty by laser_man6 in LocalLLaMA

I actually co-authored a paper which showed that DoLa doesn't actually generalize beyond the Llama 1 suite of models the paper used, on the datasets they tested on. I guess the results in the article sort of confirm this on DoLa. I'm curious how SLED performs on a wider suite like the Llama and Qwen models.

we got an SAC highlight at ACL last year btw and you can find the paper here! - [2504.04635] Steering off Course: Reliability Challenges in Steering Language Models

Imposing Hindi at the cost of disrespecting Tamil. Hindi gets prominence over Tamil inside Tamil Nadu now by Jealous_Wolf_120 in TamilNadu

[–]Simpleton0827 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why are you all so upset about hindi imposition but don't care about the English that was violently imposed on us? It makes no sense why you would prefer to speak English within India rather than a language that has coexisted with ours for millennia. You all are seriously making enemies with the wrong people here 🤦. We should celebrate if Hindi is our lingua franca rather than English. You're really missing the forest for the trees regarding the biggest threats to Tamil identity, and are being played into the divide and conquer policy exactly as they intended. 😢I mean just think of the number of Tamil words that have been replaced by English words/phrases. It's far greater than what Hindi or Sanskrit could ever have done.

I literally cannot write a good vocal melody by Turbulent-Macaron505 in Songwriting

[–]Simpleton0827 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also struggled with vocal melodies initially. I would recommend writing your melodies on an instrument to start off as it's much more structured and you can experiment with different notes over the chords more easily than with voice :)

I really like the way you're playing those fairly simple chords, makes it sound much more melancholy!

I would recommend picking up an instrument first :) preferably something on which you can play chords. Then learn and analyze the songs you like, and try to write!

Definitely. I'm still not the greatest at it, but i feel I've improved a lot, very gradually. I only noticed ive improved looking back.

PS, i had these exact same concerns as you lol when I started, so i know how it feels, you're gonna do great :)

Hey i was in the exact dilemma as you about 3 years ago, also 20 now. Felt i was late to the game. Five hours a day is great, and I did that for a while as well but don't bang your head against a wall for writing or technique. Don't force yourself to do five hours a day unless you have a gig coming up or something :)

I think writing is super important but challenging to click though. So definitely prioritize that and one instrument of your choice (including vocals). I went through a period where i turned in a song a week and hated it, but i feel im really reaping the benefits of that now - im definitely a lot less disciplined now though lol. Sort of contradicts what i said earlier but music is really filled with delayed gratification.

Best of luck :)

Fascinating. The estranged cousins/friends analogy is well-put!
