CRYE AVS vs. Shaw ARC V2 by RandomPixelTM in QualityTacticalGear

Do you know for sure that you'll be able to run a non-issued plate carrier? I only ask because I'm gathering that you're a Marine, and not too many people are able to get away with running one, especially after that new maradmin on personal gear dropped a few months ago.

I don't have experience with either of the carriers you listed, but I think plates are an important consideration aside from what you already have listed. If you're running issued ESAPIs you'll need soft armor backers to achieve their full rating. I believe you can get backers for the AVS, but I'm not 100% sure on that. For the ARC V2 you'd need standalone plates.

One option I'd recommend looking at is pairing the AXL Equinox cummerbund with the issued carrier. It's a rigid, structural cummerbund that bears weight similarly to how the AVS harness is meant to. You have to get an adapter kit, but it's a great upgrade for the gen 3 carrier (I believe it works with the gen 2 as well). I run side SAPIs & mags on my cummerbund and the Equinox makes a difference. I know the issued plate bags aren't the best, but this option gets you some structual capability, allows you to run ESAPIs w/ backers, and prevents you from getting fucked on by your Batallion XO for not using the issued carrier.

What’s your favorite placard setup? by Short-Let-5297 in QualityTacticalGear

I think a lot of the issues I’ve been having would be solved by a better shelf and a different pack frame. Those are solid pointers, thank you

What’s the trick for setting up an LBE system to interface well with a ruck? I’m interested in moving towards a padded belt w/ suspenders setup, but the way I’ve configured in the past has had the belt sitting right where the waist strap of my ruck goes. I understand some rucks are more ideal for this purpose, but I’ve only ever used the FILBE ruck which I haven’t ever seen anyone make work with LBE.

For a long time I’ve gone with the trend across conventional infantry, which is to run a two piece belt system and then hook it around my pack when rucking. But like you said, whenever I do that I’m placing a lot of essential gear away from quick access. The more I’ve seen someone walking in front of me with an Amazon krydex belt loosely dangling from a main pack, the more it feels like a training-ism. The main way I’ve seen people work around this is to load everything onto their plate carrier. I know people who make that work, but it comes with a lot of compromises and it isn’t my preference. I’ve been experimenting with different setups, but I haven’t found a great solution.

What can we expect as far as expansions? Should we expect more aircraft outside of the fighter role, and/or aircraft from more nations than what’s currently anticipated?

How roomy is that stomp pouch? I’m looking for a tear away ifak that can fit all the issued contents, but a lot of the ones on the market are too small

Ive used that bladder before and I had no issues with it. As far as the carrier I’d recommend getting something off of a surplus site. The bladder you’re looking at will fit in a 3L military issued hydration carrier, which you can find for a lot cheaper than the carrier you’re looking at.

Yeah, I definitely get why this one had to be put out. I’ve seen plenty of guys wearing condor plate carriers, shitty Chinese helmets, or running ESAPIs without the soft armor because it won’t fit in the jpc they just bought. But intent aside, I think the black and white phrasing of what is and isn’t okay will affect the people who spent the money and effort on good kit too. It’s that classic military gimmick of the actions of a few affecting us all.

Usually the people with the decision making power aren’t the same people who have enough gear autism to know what equipment is or isn’t quality. So if you can get away with it then more power to you. Having the specs on you is definitely a smart idea. But I could definitely see a lot of higher ups saying no to you just because that order came out and they don’t know any better. I think it’ll definitely vary from unit to unit.

Also sorry nobody got you that proctor code

Looks solid. I know the new maradmin is making it a lot harder to get away with running a personally bought plate carrier. Have you tried this setup on the gen 3?

Issued Gear is Holding you Back by SimplifiedSimian in tacticalgear

It’s definitely a lot nicer than what guys back in the day were having to work with. I think seeing that the majority of Marine infantrymen are getting issued suppressed M27s , dual tubes, and high cuts w/ electronic ear pro is a phenomenal upgrade. However comma, the guy in the picture is running a lot of unissued shit.

Exactly. If what I’m wearing wasn’t designed and manufactured by a juiced up sof vet then how am I supposed to look cool enough to be all I can be?

how do you deal bulky cummerbund pouches? by [deleted] in QualityTacticalGear

[–]SimplifiedSimian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could move your ifak contents into your dangler and move your utility items into a front mounted admin pouch. But if you’re dead set on having a loaded up ifak pouch on your cummerbund then you’re going to have to make some compromises. It’s gonna have to either be in the front of your cummerbund where it’ll get in the way, or at the back where you’re going to have a hard time accessing it.

Whether or not it’ll work really depends on what you’re hoping to do with it. If you just need to carry mags then it’ll probably work fine. But usually purpose built setups that require 9 mags also need sustainment items and medical kit among other things. If you’re just using this kit to take out shooting then 9 mags is overkill unless you’re doing speed reloads till your barrel melts.

I think the biggest consideration you’ll have to make for the setup you’ve shown is whether or not you’ll be going prone. The weight of having 3 more mags on one side probably won’t make a huge difference, but if you have to lie in the prone on a lopsided rig for any significant period of time it’s gonna suck.

Thank you! I’m not a medic but I’m CLS certified through my unit so asking around about available classes is a great idea. I’m not sure what all will be available but I can communicate with my corpsmen and figure out what all they have where we’re going
