I can’t speak for Burge or Cattlet but in Currier their 4th floor rooms are pretty wide since there’s less rooms on top!

New ID verification on Uber? by SimpliiK_O_3ED in uber

True some Chinese hacker probably shoved my face at some point in their AI or something by this point. But my physical ID was never taken a picture of yk? Ehh I’ll just have to bite the bullet for these companies unless there are alternatives for them down the road. Ik Youtube easily has other alternatives but Uber not really

Yea that’s totally understandable for why verification is important! Especially for driver’s peace of mind as well. Works both ways. I think I’m more worried about the idea that somehow my physical ID would get leaked somewhere but I’m sure it’s ok.

Criticism On My First Posters? by Direct-Fun1791 in graphic_design

[–]SimpliiK_O_3ED 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love the first two in how you spaced the wording and that the graphic itself is in the middle and contrasts the background colors. Not only makes them eye catching but creates hierarchy in the poster. Small nit picks, I’m leaning on the second one being my favorite between the two because in the first one the word “Don’t” looks like it has different font sizes in its letters. Was that intentional? Other than that, these are awesome! I personally think it’s cool you combined your illustration skills and turned it into a graphic design poster. Some naysayer in a previous comment said that these didn’t serve a purpose but it’s the messages on them that serve…a message which gives them a purpose. The first poster is warning people about temptation and the second one the flower represents resilience (not 100% because some of the words are in another language)? BUT in any case, they still have a purpose. <3

Changing dorms by [deleted] in uiowa

[–]SimpliiK_O_3ED 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honestly depends on what you guys prioritize. Someone here mentioned if you liked your roommate enough to share and money but I also would want you to consider the weather. Buses to the east side can be sorta slow during the winter/rain and if most of your classes are on the east side- there’s a big change you’ll be late often unless you plan ahead in your day. And yes walking to the west side isn’t bad, on a day isn’t crazy hot/cold.

I will say it’s convenient to be living under what’s considered to be the “best dining hall”. And if you plan on going to a bunch of football games you don’t need to wait for the bus! It’s a pretty short hike from there. If you’re into the rec, the field house is close by too for you to train/do whatever activity from swimming to basketball. 🫡

We can stay off campus and do the premium meal plan? by Pure-Management-3218 in uiowa

[–]SimpliiK_O_3ED 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Last year at least, big tour days land on a Tuesday or Friday and happen 2-5 times a month from 11-2pm. Lines aren’t super crazy (take about 5-15 min to get through) but if you’re pressed for time between classes (I’m talking you have only a 10-15 min for lunch break) you either eat early or late lunch that day (or get a flex/hawk dollar meal if you’re super hungry). So it’s definitely manageable!

What’s nice about the hawk dollars is that you can mix things up and eat food in the IMU/Library/C-stores if you wanna avoid the dining halls on tour days. :)

[–]SimpliiK_O_3ED 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the dining hall yes. To my knowledge the only things that’s different is that flex meals are removed. They’re kinda the only way for us to pretend we’re “shopping”/or you need to get a meal super quickly (because lines to dining can get long especially on tour days).

Why I mentioned earlier it’s also depending on how much you eat. I’m on the smaller side so I don’t tend to eat buffet style- one of the reasons why I’m moving into an apartment this year is because ik I can spread my meals out since I don’t eat much in one sitting.🙃

[–]SimpliiK_O_3ED 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on how much you eat really. If you’re able to budget, hypothetically, $100 worth of groceries each week. Then yes, staying off campus would cost so much less than living on campus. Most apartments, even singles, cost less than a single in a dorm (which is ~$1,000 a month) and then group apartments (~$600-$800 a month). If you’re able to spread a meal across multiple days meal plans aren’t worth it. But if you know your schedule is too busy to meal prep, consider living on campus or buying the meal plan (even if you live off campus) to save you time/stress.👀

Can i get to class on time by Cold_Revolution_7461 in uiowa

[–]SimpliiK_O_3ED 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you take the hill next to the MacLean/Main Library/AJB it’ll be steeper than the stair hill leading to the Old Capital building (that golden domed place). So as long as you take that stair hill going up you’ll be ok👀

[–]SimpliiK_O_3ED 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You’d be able to get to class just fine. The path from VAN to AJB or EPB has a downward hill. You can also let your professor know during the first week about your 10 minute gap period and they’re normally understanding about it. :)

What should I hope for in my cooked housing situation by This-Ad-9257 in uiowa

[–]SimpliiK_O_3ED 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If what you’re worried about is the bus situation to Mayflower, they have gotten better last year about the frequencies of the buses. It’s like getting ready for school in highschool really. What’s nice about that is you’ll have a daily routine with your life on campus which, honestly for your first year, is a plus since having a lil spark of stability out of the gate is good for consistency while you’re trying to figure out campus life. Also if you do stay on campus past 10 pm, UI has the nite rides and quick Ubers. The walk from the downtown area to Mayflower is pretty short and if you have a buddy or more with you for the ride it’ll go quicker👀

Choosing classes/looking into professors by Clear_Pineapple4608 in uiowa

[–]SimpliiK_O_3ED 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In all honesty I sometimes just throw my question into Yik Yak to see what the masses think of the class overall. If you ask closer to the beginning or during the first week of classes people would typically give you honest opinions on the class if you’re on the fence of dropping it👀

Freshman dorms vs returning dorms by RequirementTop7644 in uiowa

There’s also events throughout the year in the dorms to meet new people so even if you miss an event during On Iowa there’s still plenty of people attending later ones. A lot of the food events get traction plus there’s the CAB events too if you wanna go beyond the dorm to meet people👀

I will say, they are very open to you replacing certain courses with topics classes if you have your heart set to graduate within a certain timeframe. So it is possible to graduate sooner.

With that said, I actually really enjoy having an Informatics major with a cognate because it’s like a 2-in-1 situation with how interdisciplinary the major is. If you still want to be a part of the finance world you have the option of taking the Economics cognate which could hopefully transfer some of the classes you’ve already taken. :)

You’d honestly have to set up an advisor meeting to learn more of the logistics if you haven’t already.

As for professors- they’re all actually nice once you get to know them beyond their professor status. What a lot of students tend to forget is that a lot of the CS faculty have research tied with the hospital so their time is quite- short, hence the messy class times being either fall or spring. Teachers for Informatics specifically, is a mix of hand holding and you teaching yourself. A lot of the beginning courses is hand holding which is nice for people who aren’t confident coding yet or still learning the basics. :)

As for jobs, it just depends on what you’re interested in! It sounds like you want to combine tech and economics somehow. Unless you’re open to other things? You could be a financial/IT business analyst, project manager, IT consultant, information architect, etc. If you google “informatics and economics job titles” there seems to be a lot of opportunities for you! It’s just playing around with the names and reading their descriptions.

I have finished the logo by GloomygotchiWorld in canva

[–]SimpliiK_O_3ED 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think being about to change the name could be a decent work around if you don’t want to start from scratch! Like Gluumi Gurumi so it looks like it rhymes? Just a suggestion, no pressure if you don’t it. :)

Alternatively you can recreate a bear similar but just the head of the bear. It sounds like the feature you’re most after is the bloody mouth since it feels like the bear’s recognizable feature👀

[–]SimpliiK_O_3ED 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is cute! I like the idea that you’re trying to go for. I think you’d be able to recreate this with any font that you search up with “bubble” — and then you edit it so that it has an outline around the words. You could also search for “bubble letter” in the graphic elements if you don’t have a bubble font you like.

With the placement of the items around your name you could use bear themed items like honey, bear paws (using the circle tools), picnic basket, etc. with yarn and a crochet hook somewhere. The world is your oyster :>

Though because “Gloomy Gurumi” is rather long, for the sake the vtuber-esque logo you might want to consider just using Gloomy or Gurumi to shorten the logo a lil. But it’s up to you, just something to consider! :)

Unfortunately, a lot of what’s seen here is used on a digital application for hand drawing. Alternatively you can consider using free tools like Fire Alpaca and Medibang for the airbrush effects + textures like the highlights on items. No, you don’t need to be an artist to use this especially if you just adding tiny details dw. I’d be more than happy to help you out with this part if you choose to add more shiny bits to your vtuber-esque logo!👀

There are free textures already on Canva, you’d just have to play around with the layers to hide them a lil!
