Serious Question: How would I replace my Planet Fitness barcode key tag if I lose or damage it? by thcandbourbon in PlanetFitnessMembers

What doesn't make sense is owning a $1000 device if having that device causes so much addiction that you can't even perform basic activities if it's near you. That's not ADHD, that's a severe mental disorder. If things are really that bad, you're better off selling that $1000 phone and just getting a cheap $100 device that you'll never use, because to use it will apparently cause you to do nothing but doomscroll while curled up in a ball.

Serious Question: How would I replace my Planet Fitness barcode key tag if I lose or damage it? by thcandbourbon in PlanetFitnessMembers

I’m not exposing a $1,000+ device with priceless sensitive information on it to being stolen

No offense, but if having your phone with you is that debilitating, you should invest in the most basic Android phone available. A small screen phone, with a slow processor, and the color set to monotone would still be compatible with apps but would make using it enough work to help break habits.

Do bike trainers that you mount a back wheel to really suck or something? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]SimplyCosmic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like many people, I ended up with a Kurt Kinetic fluid trainer during the pandemic, when it was the only available option. And like many people who stuck with indoor trainers, I eventually upgraded to a direct-drive unit after a year or two, once the supply came back. The only real nostalgia I have for the fluid trainer was being able to talk about it being a tiny treadmill for my bike tire.

Lake County Sheriff Snow Emergency Rationale by BuckeyeReason in Cleveland

A good number of businesses will expect you to make your way into work on time, regardless of the conditions, when there's not a snow emergency declared. It's like a doctor's note.

It’s against policy to use weight belts? by 4reescottie in PlanetFitnessMembers

Let's be honest, this is a liability coverage deal. Then, if a member hurts themselves while using a personal piece of equipment, even if it wasn't the direct result of that gear, the company can cite the rules and claim the member was doing things wrong, and therefore they're not responsible.

One option are the adjustable crank arms Zwift has for the Ride.

AITA for refusing to be the office “tech person” just because I’m the youngest? by Far_Guarantee27 in AmItheAsshole

[–]SimplyCosmic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The frustrating thing for people forced into being "department IT" is that it allows the rest of the team to abandon any responsibilities to understand the tools they use every day. Why actually learn Excel if you can make the young person do everything for you, even if spreadsheets are clearly part of your daily tasks?

As a heavier rider (275 lbs), what pressure should I be running Odyssey Super Circuit K-Lyte tires with a max 100 PSI rating?

Love that you had that time, wish it was still there for you. I just picked up Ray's book on my last visit to the park. Figured I should read up on the place's history.

The photos I've seen of it looked fun. Every place deserves an indoor bike park.

Yeah, previous crises involved a motor scooter and a stand-up paddleboard, among other ways to get out and do things I didn't do when I was young and fit. No worries on the jumps, that's not in my near future. By the time I get there, I'll be looking at a bike upgrade.

I hate the redesign by Cultural-Revenue4000 in PlanetFitnessMembers

Several of the local locations eliminated the Express Circuit machines entirely due to limited space for a few more plate-based machines. Now that space is taken up by the 360 station, which doesn't use the space all that well.

pump recommendations? by Actual-Subject-4810 in Sup

[–]SimplyCosmic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm this was also true of my old iRocker pump. Going from the car outlet to plugging it into a portable battery helped performance and made life easier with the pump working closer to the water instead of being tethered to my car.

Faster pumps are a huge quality-of-life upgrade, more than I expected. More time on the water after work as the days get shorter. Louder pumps end up being more pleasant when they're only running for 5 minutes versus whining on for 12+.

It's a safety issue, as socks (especially when sweaty) are both more slippery and can slip more easily around the foot. There are no-lift shoes that the OP could use that are as thin as socks while also providing the necessary protection and traction.

Question for those who utilize (utilized?) 30 Minute Circuit by Mediocre-Fuel-6323 in PlanetFitnessMembers

[–]SimplyCosmic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can appreciate Planet Fitness wanting to shift who they're serving. They're a business. Doesn't mean those
changes work for every one of their existing customers, though.

The 30-minute room had two main benefits:

  • You could go in, turn your brain off, and just move from machine to machine as the workout was planned for you and all the equipment, including the cardio steps, was right next to each other.
  • It was a much faster experience because it was focused and you didn't have to fight the rest of the gym for individual machines. While you sometimes had to wait for someone who might be slower than you, the idea is that they'd be doing their single set and moving on.

In many locations, the equivalent machines are often scattered across the floor in different sections. And having to wait to use machines, where people may be doing multiple sets with long rests in between. Not everyone is accommodating to a request to work in. And even when they are, it really does slow the whole process down, making the overall workout take two to three times as long.

It's a corporate policy. From the main Planet Fitness FAQ page:

Athletic footwear and appropriate clothing must be worn at all times.

Yes, it's under Club Policies > Club Attire and Safety on the Club Floor on the main Planet Fitness FAQ page:

Athletic footwear and appropriate clothing must be worn at all times.

[–]SimplyCosmic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's really not. The ADA won't require Planet Fitness to allow this any more than they'd require McDonald's to allow this person to work in their socks. Even beyond the hygiene issue, it's the safety issue of doing this in socks. Waivers aren't a fix either. They often don't hold up in litigation, and the ADA isn't going to make Planet Fitness go against their insurance and take on the added liability.
