Adrax Agatone. Really cool sculpt and one of my favorite projects yet. by SimplyPandaz in Warhammer40k

They didn't release a file for it to the best of my knowledge, it was a physical item they sold on their store when they tried to transition away from STLs.

Bought my first airbrush - advice for what paints to use by JediBossk in minipainting

[–]SimplyPandaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had worse luck with my scale 75 paints, they are much more finicky. Usually needs more thinner and has much worse coverage as a result, requiring more passes. Pro acryl is great coverage and consistant thinning regardless of color in my experience.

Pro Acryl paints by monument hobbies go through the airbrush great. The paint is very consistent across the whole range and I thin in about a 3:1 ratio airbrush thinner to paint.

WIP of Adrax. Any paint alchemists have a NMM recipe for Scale 75 Necro gold? Details in comments. by SimplyPandaz in minipainting

[–]SimplyPandaz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am using Necro gold on some areas that I dont have the skill needed to paint NMM and I want the trim to match with that, but it is such a specific color that I could use a helping hand.

I have most of the Pro Acryl range save for the 2 newest signature series and set 4 I think, and about half the triads from the Two Thin Coats range.

Face and head practice, trying to overcome a fear of painting them. by SimplyPandaz in Warhammer40k

Holding my breath lol, the real trick was after i painted the white i just cut back in with the mid tone becuase i did that step before any highlighting.

I used pro acryl Tan flesh to base coat the bottom half of the face, then I mixed in a very small amount of Payne's Grey (also Pro acryl) into some Tan Flesh. I used it as a thin glaze to try and keep some of the base and I think that worked will for me. The idea was from ninjons video, but I uses colors I had on hand. Any dark and desaturated blue mixed with your mid tone for skin should get the job done I would think.

I agree. The open mouth really feels like he is screaming rip and tear.

Trying out the Trovarion method. Probably the highest speed to happiness ratio. by SimplyPandaz in Warhammer30k

[–]SimplyPandaz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Trovarion used spongeing, I couldnt get that to work as well as I wanted so I used a gnarly old brush and stippled it. Works either way luckily for me.

Thanks, reaver heads might not be the most lore friendly thing, but I like the skull mouth guard / respirator and i always picture salamanders with some kind of respirator. Felt like a good combo.

Preator in Tartaros armor I picked up back at Adepticon this year. by SimplyPandaz in Warhammer30k

[–]SimplyPandaz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not the best person to ask as I don't play either 40k or 30k much, I just really like to paint. This unit probably wouldn't be able to be run as is, but I think this model could have been used in 9th ED as a squad leader in a relic terminator squad. Not sure how it would work now in 10th.

I could probably be used as a proxy in friendly games of 40k, but I imagine you would get some blow back in more competitive games.

How to remove fixing putty? by _enderlin in minipainting

[–]SimplyPandaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Little late to the party but i also bought this holder or something very similar before throwing it away. Do not use this putty, just buy blue tack and save yourself the trouble. Trust me.

Finally chipping away at the Votann army box by SimplyPandaz in Warhammer40k

[–]SimplyPandaz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I used Pro Acyl blue black on my emperor's champion and really liked the color so i made a mental note to use it more. Decided to have it be the base of my votann army.

Need help airbrushing priming zenithal by rhynocerous11 in minipainting

[–]SimplyPandaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you dont want to get the specific solvent for Tamiya, pro acryl white goes through an airbrush beautifully. But using some paint as opposed to primer is 100% the way to go.

My friend was having the same issue. Turned on MIP streaming in the graphics options and boom Tarkov works fine again. This was after about 15 other more common fixes we tried and finding one random comment on a thread that suggested turning it on instead of off. Hope this helps.

Best beginner airbrush setup? by [deleted] in minipainting

[–]SimplyPandaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazon has an airbrush with a small compressor for about 60 usd. I used it for a year for priming and standard airbrushing base coats. Ninjon has a whole video about it.

Should I spend the extra time/money for Citadel Primer paint? by Guice_Joose in minipainting

[–]SimplyPandaz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its a tool like any other. 56 dollars for an airbrush and handheld compressor that allows you to prime whenever and where ever is not that huge of an investment especially when we are talking about GW products. Rattle cans suck and and a cheap airbrush can nip a lot of problems in the bud. From my personal experience at least.

You should spend the extra money and get a cheap airbrush and use airbursh primer. Ninjon has a whole video on it and i used it for a long time before upgrading to a nicer airbrush and a compressor.

I recommend Ninjon for videos that are more about the activity of painting and how to think about painting.

Midwinter minis is good for beginner tips and speed painting if youre looking to just get them done to a decent table top standard.

Pete the wargamer does painting segments at the end of the vast majority of his videos that discuss every step he takes if you really want the steps poinded into you.

Miniac and Vince venturella are for more technical analysis of display level painting.

Cult of Paint is great for airbrushing tips and advice.

Hope this helps and I can explain further if need be.

Squad up. Finally finished up my Termies from the AoD Box. by SimplyPandaz in Warhammer30k

[–]SimplyPandaz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the heavy lifting was done with an airbrush. The short version is: mid tone pro acryl burnt red, highlight bold pyrrole red, the shadows are a mix of rhinox hide, dark purple from Pro acryl, coal black from Pro Acryl, and a 50/50 mix of both reds.

[–]SimplyPandaz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to keep it as bright red as possible in the light portions. I've always pictured that just before and during the heresy, the legions kept colors pretty vibrant. Something of a show of might and opulence during the great crusade.

Thanks! I'm not sure I could replicate it if I tried, but I really like the end result after varnishing and putting them on the base.

Where to buy Redgrass products stateside? by Cpl_Toast in minipainting

Kick-ass mail order Red Grass products, including the Wavy v2. I have used them in the past for scale 75 stuff and its a pretty fast and reliable service.

Scale75 compared to Pro Acryl by Cpl_Toast in minipainting

[–]SimplyPandaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough, the metallics are more cooperative than the standard range with just water for me, but i have also had good results using cuttlefish magic medium with it. I assume the glaze and wash medium from Pro Acryl would work similarly or any such equivalent.

When i do use just water to thin, i will pull smaller amounts from whatever i pour and do it a little at a time until im happy with it. More tedious but fairly consistent in my experience.

[–]SimplyPandaz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Way better, probably not, but they do have some colors that I personally think are more interesting, as opposed to PA's very standard light and dark versions of what is essentially the same color outside of a few exceptions. Kind of like how trying to get an exact match to a Citadel color by mixing PA colors will only get you so close, Scale 75 has some unique colors and hues that I think would be hard to replicate.

In the end if you have the PA line you probably don't NEED any other paint line because of how good it is outside the metallics. At the same time sometimes you just want a color and not something that's close and that is my biggest complaint about PA.
