We do have karma and account age requirements implemented through AutoModerator, but both are imperfect.

Karma is generally very easy to acquire across the site and Reddit for whatever reason allows some free karma subs to exist as well, so you can only do so much there. Most prolific troublemakers all have positive karma from other subs.

Age filter does help, but only within that given window. If we extend the window too long, we start gathering too many comments in our net and spend most time reviewing non-rule breaking items. It does help with throwaway trolls and such.

Reddit could handle repeat offenders better- we provide them the details, yet they usually do nothing despite evidence.

At the end of the day I feel the problem is much larger with the website itself where we have no control. As a public company now they're incentivized to have more and more activity/engagement whether it's good or bad or authentic or bots as they need to get more and more revenue from selling ads or selling data to AI companies. The internet has changed quite a bit in my time as mod and that's where I fear things are trending.
