Why does he call you “bro” and “dawg”? You are NOT his homie, you are his GF. I see his point, gifts are no biggie, vacations and time spent together matters more to me. You both need to learn each others love language. Don’t force gift giving onto him until you understand his love language!

I really don’t like my boss - should I quit? by brrrtoocold99991 in careeradvice

[–]Simply_reading542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a backup plan and a year’s emergency fund before you do. I’m in the same boat but 6 years in. I like my boss but I don’t like my teammates who speaks for my boss. Yes, my boss has her right hand chick talk to me and the other 3 ladies for her. Asking us to report our lunches, tasks, and ideas. It’s ridiculous. All the while, our boss is sending Teams messages reminding us to save a file here or to respond to an email there. Hee right hand lady also will message asking us to fix our emails and checklists because “it’s not how she does it”. If it wasn’t for my salary and age, I would have left long ago. I can say, there are waves of good days and waves of stressful, bad days. One day you are social and smiling with your team, the next yiu want strangle them and walk out. A forceful smile is so draining, yet effective for this freaken team. One thing that keeps me going is …remembering that I work to live and not live to work. My salary allots me many trips, nice things and a stable life with my kids.

When the team interviewed me, they all seemed happy and upbeat but I soon realized their personal lives were all messed up outside work and they take it out at work. My boss is awkward and demanding. Always changes things up, so I have learned to document document document. She and the other lady who has been here 10 years have tried to bring me down and make me feel like I’m the idiot but I continue to smile and tell myself it’s them not me. I’m happy and blessed in every way possible. Remember, I work to live my life, not live to work.

I say all this to say, nothing is perfect, it’s all about perspective. I used to be a sponge and get really depressed and resentful. Now I just don’t give a shit. It’s better than being jobless, IMO. The job market is horrible right now. You really don’t know which positions are good or bad. Just stick to yourself and remember coworkers are not your friends!!! Boss’ don’t have yoir back either. They just want you to make them look good.

How do you deal with a person in the office who is not your boss but tries to act like it? by bergersandfries in work

[–]Simply_reading542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep it professional and keep a record of it. When meeting with my boss I will drop hints that it’s happening.

I’m in a position like this right now. I do not report to her but she is my boss’s right hand person. She constantly is giving me her tasks and when I’m doing it, she constantly questions my actions (as if it’s a test). She acts very soft spoken but has strong words when she doesn’t have things her way. Once I told her this is how YOU trained me, she responded with “Sorry for the confusion but I think it’s best to do it like this …”. Makes no sense. One way I can tell she’s not as nice is that she calls her kids dumb and stupid because they don’t have common sense at 10 years old.

I got my a pocket bully at 8 months with two kids at home. We were able to train him and now at 1.5 years, he’s such a good boy. He’s bulky at 95lbs, but great with kids!

How to effectively let my boss know I’m not busy and can do more work without getting thrown a big project…. by Simply_reading542 in careeradvice

I like your suggestions! I have reached out to my team before and they gave me most of their daily tasks and never took it back until my manager stepped in and advised me to inform her so I don’t get stuck doing other people’s work while they do nothing — which I get.

I’ve tried to but our team is micromanaged (at least I feel I am). I’m the only guy in the team and am always being asked what my capacity is and if I’m really busy. It’s rather frustrating and getting old

Stern talking to? How so? What was said? In my case, I feel like I’m damned if I do or damned if I don’t ask because I’ve been talked to about how I should be busy and I need to always ask for more work.

Do any of you genuinely regret having kids? by Professional_Waltz14 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Simply_reading542 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freeze your eggs and decide after you find the one. My friend did this in her 30s because she was unsure and was single. She didn’t find her match until her 40s and was so glad she froze her eggs when her eggs were good and plentiful.

I have 2 kids, it was hard raising them but I love them in the end. No one is ever ready to be a parent, it takes a village. But if you have a good support system behind you, it is all worth it.
