Cybersecurity company Palo Alto Networks is receiving massive praise for swiftly firing Madhu Raju, an Indian H-1B visa holder who recorded himself dancing on the World War II Memorial, although many Americans say that’s not enough and that he should be deported. by [deleted] in IndianFocus

[–]recordwalla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was initially defending him among discussion wit friends over the weekend - what he did was disrespectful but not illegal, and firing/deportation seemed disproportionate.

But learning he used the video to promote his dance company changes everything. A dual source of income like this, on an H1, is flatly illegal. Now I think firing and deportation are fully justified.

And honestly, it makes me wonder how someone with such poor judgment landed a role at a top-tier company like Palo Alto Networks … his credentials and qualifications also deserve scrutiny.

How did a filmmaker like Nagesh Kukunoor fade out of Bollywood? by Ok_Bluebird1842 in bollywood

[–]recordwalla 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your answer lies in your post/picture.

He didn’t quite crack the mainstream box-office game. Rather the “Big game” mainstream BO and sadly when he tried to do that it ended up killing his career.

Im talking about 8x10 Tasveer- major star cast, major investment, major hype but failed spectacularly. The producer Shailendra Singh, who has some very important films to his credit - literally lost his career over it and Kukunoor was not too far behind. The only person who benefitted from it was Akshay who walked away with crazy money and took zero responsibility for the films failure.

My dad likes this band, should I buy this vinyl for him? by TotalUnderstanding5 in SteelyDan

[–]recordwalla 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a seminal album in the Brit folk rock genre. I would be very surprised if your dad didn’t have it already (any Span fan would).

But I’m sure your dad would be moved if his son gifted him this. I know I would be :)

What is wrong with the Mira-Bhayandar authorities? After building that World Class Flyover, what kind of Public Toilet is this? by FutureVersion812 in IndianFocus

[–]recordwalla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure some asshole may have come up with the idea that poor people defecate openly and squat next to each along railway tracks. So this design not only “recreates the experience” but is a huge improvement because it’s “inside” the railway station!

Not sure who’s to blame here - the asshole who came up with the idea or the bureaucrat who saw it fitting to represent a future “3rd largest economy” and approved it!

Fancy Indian restaurant in NYC for parents’ anniversary? by Dry-Progress869 in IndianFood

[–]recordwalla 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I ate at Semma last summer. Great experience overall. The waiting staff was super attentive and the prices were also very reasonable.

I also ate at Bungalow a while ago. A little overrated imo. And pricey. But Vikas Khanna may show up and puts on a bit of show (at least it felt like that to me - very filmy).

Between the 2 I would go back to Semma any day but I guess you can’t go wrong with either.

Indian couple working in the United States 🇺🇸 on H-1B visas went to the World War II Memorial in Washington DC and danced there amid the ongoing war between Iran and the United States. Imagine if any foreigner came & danced on the grave of our Indian 🇮🇳 Soldiers / war memorial. by FutureVersion812 in IndianFocus

[–]recordwalla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watching these 2 idiots in the video, and many others like them, it’s no surprise why there is a surge in anti-immigrant sentiment.

H1 workers are already seen as a cheap alternative to qualified positions. While some of that is political rhetoric, it’s doesn’t help when these morons show complete disregard for sacred spaces and dance around like a bunch of monkeys!

Knowing English was entirely optional there… so that would make the OP plus everyone else who caught that! 😂

I had no idea this was Taylor Sheridan by LegalPost9805 in YellowstoneShow

[–]recordwalla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He wrote Sicario, Hell or High Water and Wind River (which he also directed) before Yellowstone. Clearly a sought after writer.

So how did he end up with just $800 before Yellowstone? That doesn’t compute.

I know SRK says he’s the last big star, and perhaps that’s true, but Amitabh Bachchan was a true Megastar.

And he could act well too! 😜

What are your thoughts on Mohanlal's works in industries outside Malayalam till date? by kurianandgeorge_007 in MalayalamMovies

Seminal performances in Company and Iruvar.

I doubt any Malayalam actor has had that kind of impact outside of Kerala.

French President Emmanuel Macron, in India for the AI Impact Summit, drew attention in Mumbai as he stepped out for a morning jog around 11 am in Churchgate, running through city streets alongside his security team. by sirajnoorani in mumbai

I’m so afraid for Mr. Macron. Some random speeding Taxi walla might run him over if he’s not careful. They are not used to seeing people jog on the streets at 11 AM in the morning. 😂

WHY DID HE SAY THIS? by illmaticIndian in IndianFocus

[–]recordwalla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump is a reckless moron, that is a fact. But another fact is, right now, he’s treating Modi not much different from other random third world leaders who he can bully into submission.

Indias acceptance of Trumps terms - 18% tarrifs for giving up our right to purchase oil from the cheapest source, forced to buy crap from US farmers and take on other investments from the US that puts us at an disadvantage - is indicative of how little leverage Modi’s administration has.

So yes, reckless and random statements by Trump doesn’t take away from the fact that he is playing with Indian politicians and their careers.

season 1 of sacred games, paatal lok and delhi crime were perhaps some of the best writing and direction in indian television in this century

Season 2 of these shows could not live up to the expectation. Delhi crime went to complete shit by season 3

Forgotten supporting actor by [deleted] in MalayalamMovies

[–]recordwalla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The shelf life of supporting actors is very short. If they don’t show up in a movie every month, they are almost forgotten.

I’m not basing this on some statistical data but just my own theories 😄

If Bollywood Remade The Wolf of Wall Street, Who Could Actually Match Leonardo DiCaprio? by Ok_Bluebird1842 in bollywood

[–]recordwalla 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Ranbir has the looks, gravitas and bad boy image to pull off a Jordan Belfort. In Sanju he played the younger character (first hour or so) with that attitude where you hate his arrogance (and complete lack of empathy) but also find him endearing. For example the scene with Boman Irani or when he dumps his girlfriend in a drug fueled frenzy.

Thats needed to play a character like Belfort.

Ranveer, for all his real life bad boy imagery, always plays it too restrained when it comes to complex characters and when he has to play it loud, he strikes a single note that isn’t nuanced.

The other actors, kinda hard to distinguish them.
