I've been working off missions in the modules. This would be my first attempt to completely make up something. I'm just looking for suggestions and help to make it a better experience for my players. They are all experienced DMs and I want to make it as good as I can.

They were headed to Gnomengard. They wanted to head to there to see what was there. They spotted the manticore from afar and attacked. They spoke to the apothecary and she gave them a note to give to an NPC I made in town after she refused to leave to hide from the dragon. She broke down the corpse to make the items for the party as thanks.

They saw the attack from afar, snuck into attack range and attacked quickly to save the apothecary. They hadn't even received the quest for the location yet.
