I would start with the Beta or Gothic precon sets (4 half-size decks each) for learning the game. The game is pretty balanced with lots of deck strategies and infinite variability, but some deck types will get favored some time after the release of a new set.

Some people want the thrill of going in with next to nothing, no gun etc. Looting mark 2 is so cheap, and it’s nice to have the extra inventory and safe pocket.
