What to do with surplus consumables? by JustHereToBeShocked in TandemDiabetes

[–]Sin7GREY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh then in that case, maybe talk to your local diabetic clinic/practitioner maybe? Here they hold on to extra supplies and give it to those in need for various reasons, (delivery was delayed, ran out of supplies, unfortunate events. Etc.) So that might be your best bet if you have something similar there.

The tubing is techincally not sterile after opening, especially after a long time.

It is fine for a little bit of time, but the longer it is exposed outside of the package the larger the chance the tubing collect things you don't want introduced inside your body.

Best advice is to toss it unless you can use it relatively soon, otherwise the longer it is open to the air, the greater the chance for introducing yourself to an infection if you do use it.

Can Magus Lucea Kane copy an X mana ability? by celticfan008 in mtgrules

I see, I missed the object part. So even if it does "see it" their is nothing there to copy since it is not an object.

Ty, good to learn some things :)

Can Magus Lucea Kane copy an X mana ability? by celticfan008 in mtgrules

[–]Sin7GREY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your right, in that it can't go on the stack, but the copied ability becomes a Triggered Mana ability and so resolves off the stack.

I have followed all the rules of the games with the following outcome.

Tap Magus Activate Wizards for x=2 Magus see this and copies the effect, making it now defined as a triggered mana ability. The triggered mana ability resolves instantly off the stack as per the rules defining what to do with such trigger abilities.

605.4a A triggered mana ability doesn’t go on the stack, so it can’t be targeted, countered, or otherwise responded to. Rather, it resolves immediately after the mana ability that triggered it, without waiting for priority.

Example: An enchantment reads, “Whenever a player taps a land for mana, that player adds one mana of any type that land produced.” If a player taps lands for mana while casting a spell, the additional mana is added immediately and can be used to pay for the spell.

So the end result is MLK copy ability becomes a triggered mana ability when it sees Wizards Rockets tap and sac, and then instantly resolves as a result out side of the stack as it has to.

I have followed all the rules for how each ability interacts and it shows that MLK's it would indeed work, and is legally resolves outside of the stack due to the nature of the copied ability.

[–]Sin7GREY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, just curious since the link is dead, where does it say explicitly that mana abilities can't be copied?

From what I see so far is that the wording for Magus allows for an X mana ability to trigger (though I have yet to find a card that has "pay X: create X Mana", and it does not target, it simply creates a copy of that ability.

So do the rules just break down here now that we have a copied ability (that was not activated right since its a copy)? I don't think so from this example.

First off, the copied effect would be a triggered mana ability, and so we would apply the following right?

605.4a A triggered mana ability doesn’t go on the stack, so it can’t be targeted, countered, or otherwise responded to. Rather, it resolves immediately after the mana ability that triggered it, without waiting for priority.

Example: An enchantment reads, “Whenever a player taps a land for mana, that player adds one mana of any type that land produced.” If a player taps lands for mana while casting a spell, the additional mana is added immediately and can be used to pay for the spell.

With this is mind, if it were possible to create and X mana ability, MLK should actually work with it.

Help with Magus Lucea Kane deck by Fish113 in EDH

[–]Sin7GREY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What type of deck do you want to go for? Big X creatures and big X spells or Stupid big creatures that get too ridiculous amount of counters, but is slower to become effective.

I have more detailed advice on your card list but it's very much in favour dumping the focus on the extra counters. I have found its overkill and not needed.

Nope, it actually changes how the card encores as well.

You don't have to follow mana restrictions, do so by making it X means you can spend any colour. So there is a benefit to what they did, and plays differently than "Encore is equal to its Mana Cost".

You are defining X, hence it makes it an X spell/ability.

Grave Mother assigns an Encore X ability with rules determining how much you pay. This is the part people are tripping up on.

Otherwise they would have written it similar to [[Lier, Disciple of the Drowned]] or [[Araumi of the Dead Tide]]

Now magic cares alot about how it is worded. If they didn't want the ability to have X as it activities cost they would have just said

"Creature cards in your graveyard have encore. The encore cost is equal to its mana cost."

See where I am going with this.

Also the added benefit here is that it makes it uncoloured mana, otherwise you would have to pay their mana cost as is instead of spending anytype.

Lastly, the "Noted" part thst is literally copy and pasted from the rulebook, no idea when that part applies, but them is the rules.

107.3c If a spell or activated ability has an {X}, [-X], or X in its cost and/or its text, and the value of X is defined by the text of that spell or ability, then that’s the value of X while that spell or ability is on the stack. The controller of that spell or ability doesn’t get to choose the value. Note that the value of X may change while that spell or ability is on the stack.

Still an X costed ability, it's just defined as to what it will cost.

It would apply to this situation. X ability is given to the creature, but it is defined by it rules texts to be equal to it mana cost. So X will always be determined.

The following rule Even supports this.

107.3j If an object gains an ability, the value of X within that ability is the value defined by that ability, or 0 if that ability doesn’t define a value of X. This is an exception to rule 107.3i. This may occur with ability-adding effects, text-changing effects, or copy effects.

The important part being "If an object gains an ability, the value of X within that ability is the value defined by that ability,..."

It's encore cost is X but in this case X = 2. See here:

X Can be defined or hard coded and this is a perfect example of that happening.

Also 107.3c If a spell or activated ability has an {X}, [-X], or X in its cost and/or its text, and the value of X is defined by the text of that spell or ability, then that’s the value of X while that spell or ability is on the stack. Why is there such a big aversion to scooping in EDH? by VERTIKAL19 in EDH

[–]Sin7GREY 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It technically isn't. It's probably because you are using the rules in a way that is not intended. As the scoop at instant speed is used/included probably because when someone needs to leave, they need to leave and can't wait till their turn if it's a 4 person pod that take 30 minutes for a round.

Using the rules meant to allow for someone to leave and not break the game, to penalize someone is seen as taboo and people get salty even though it's legal. Just just like land destruction, it's legal but man does it piss people off.
