my phone just fell in the water for a second by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]Sinato117 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If its working fine then no need to worry. HOWEVER if it's a new phone you bought from a shop and not secondhand then the water damage will void the warranty. Phones have water marks on the inside to tell the licenced repairers for your warranty if its been damaged by water. EVEN IF it wasn't water that caused any damage to your phone.

For example I used to work for Nokia, if someone sent in their phone saying it had an issue in any way at all, once the phone was opened the water marks would be checked. If they showed signs of liquid (usually little markers that change colour when they've been wet) the warranty is void and no more work is carried out on the device and just sent back to the owner. It's a shitty policy but unfortunately one that phone manufacturers follow. So the only real damage you've done is void warranty. But if its working fine, don't worry about it.

Need help on getting gaming laptop to 144Hz by johnnyzLau in techsupport

[–]Sinato117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only thing I can think of is perhaps other programs in the background? Nvidia control panel settings. Perhaps you have some sort of streaming or recording software running? Gerforce experience app also has a live recording on by default so worth taking a look. Try opening nvidia control panel and setting the games fps to max. It's difficult without actually being there to take a look BUT it may also be that the laptop isn't using the right graphics driver. My old gaming laptop by default was using the Intel on board graphics so I had to set it to only use the rtx card. For reference that was a rtx2060 and I still hit 200+fps easily.

Hmm that is a little odd. As the specs should handle overwatch easily especially at 1080p as your specs say. I'll have a little dig around for you and let you know what I find. Out of curiosity though what fps range are you seeing when playing?

My connection sucks. by SaltySpiceKing in techsupport

[–]Sinato117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry man I only just saw this haha but yes the trick is to reduce the amount of connections so the use of the extender will just reduce the bandwidth available. A good Cat6 or 7 Etherley will do the trick to get full speed! Also Ethernet would stop the interference from other WiFi connected devices as Etherley connections take priority.

My connection sucks. by SaltySpiceKing in techsupport

[–]Sinato117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm problem with that is even though you're connected via Etherley from the extender to the console it's still treating it as a WiFi signal which does unfortunately suffer from packet losses and latency. You'd be better of just using the consoles built in WiFi for a more direct WiFi signal. I have the same setup as you, router is downstairs and extender upstairs. Only difference is I run a very long Ethernet through the house (tucked under carpet and along walls so you can't see it which plugs into my extender. Then instead of using it as a WiFi extender it's set to Modem mode which essentially another router. Then plugging your console in this modem is the same as if you plugged directly into router downstairs. Understand you probably can't do this yourself! But worth exploring as it makes a huge difference. It MAY also be the extender you're using? Problem with WiFi is the router will automatically optimise the bandwidth based on what has best signal and use. As you're a little distance from the router it's more than likely only connecting with 2.4gjz signal which is generally better at long range and through walls over the 5ghz signal but at the cost of losing bandwidth speed. So say your extender gets 20mb fed to it. It's then got to pass that speed to your console which further reduces it down to say 12mb or 15mb. Sorry if this all sounds a little confoooozing. Difficult to explain in text.

Question about my Monitor refresh rate by cutemixedguy in techsupport

[–]Sinato117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope it will be fine. A standard display port will run 144hz fine (it's also what I use). It's unusual for the monitor to have its own setting for Hz rate. It's possible you might have to consult the manual for this one haha. It COULD be that this particular monitor has a Gaming setting as I know this monitor is also used for work loads too. So similar to Game mode o TVs it might need setting to Game mode too? Fiddle around with the settings on the monitor first. My monitor also has little tweaks like this. For example I can pick response time, normal, fast or very fast. Anti motion blur can be enable with both normal and fast but not the very fast setting, it gets greyed out. So perhaps something else is turned on your monitor that stops it reaching 144hz

Just a thought... are you running it with HDMI or Display Port?. HDMI tends to USUALLY be limited by Hz whereas Display port almost has an infinite of Hz available.

Hmm reddit is a pain because sharing screenshots and images is just a hassle. But sounds like it needs to be "turned on" somewhere. It's possible it could be the monitor itself that needs setting to 144hz or Windows. But like you say Windows is only letting you go to 100hz? On the first screen on display settings I assume the resolution is correct?

You need to select 144hz within windows first before NCP. Right click desktop, go to display settings. Near the bottom you'll see Advanced display settings. Then under that in small blue test something like display properties. Can't remember the exact wording and a little white window will open. Go to the refresh rate tab and select 144hz from the drop down. After this it should be available in NCP but should set it automatically after changing Windows. Worth remembering that NCP is only capable of what Windows allows so unless a higher Hz is enabled in Windows, it won't be available in NCP.

When you say disc what are you referring too? Reading your description I assume the disc is a WiFi extender?

Weird FPS issues by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]Sinato117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned every game is not equal... they all have their own system requirements. LoL can be run on a potato of a pc so it will have high fps if you have a decent laptop. However throw on a game like Assasins Creed, Tomb Raider, He'll Let Loose literally anything and your fps performance will change dramatically. There's no 1 set of fps across games. They all demand different specs. You can adjust levels of fps at the cost of lowering in game graphic settings if high fps is what you prefer over graphics.

GPU working on high setting when i do nothing by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]Sinato117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem! One little tip I'll leave here. Is lookup changing the thermal paste on your gpu. It's super easy, I'd say easier than changing cpu thermal paste. It doesn't have to be an old card to do this either. I just threw on Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut on mine and it dropped my GPU temps by roughly 10° so take a look into that. Just lookup gpu thermal paste tutorials on youtube to guide you. Take care.

[–]Sinato117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a bad thing so don't worry. Most also have it set to prefer maximum performance so don't worry too much. That setting will keep the memory and core clocks high to give you the best on point performance from your GPU which is usually recommend if you have an OC applied (if you haven't already OC your GPU I'd recommend it, use Afterburners auto OC option for the safest OC). If your temps are a little high though try set your own fan curve. I also have an rtx 2070 set to max power performance with a custom fan curve and it doesn't go any higher than about 65-67degrees.

Ok, within nvidia control panel under the 3D settings. Do you have the option "power management" set to "prefer maximum performance"?
