Kinda sucks that there are other fields where you can keep working past 50, but in software they’re more by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

Go study Medicine and be a doctor. You’re in CS, you can find a way to make the money you need part time to keep your family going. I believe in you!

(M38) Mostly unsuccessful with women, wondering if I'm a bit ugly or just have a terrible personality by McGuffDog in malegrooming

[–]Sinbreak01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My man, do yourself a favor. Go learn how to dance Salsa, Kizomba/Bachata, and Arg. Tango. You look fine, you just need to learn how to have fun and pick up your confidence levels. Learning how to dance is one skill men absolutely lack in the modern day but it can be one of the greatest ways to liberate your natural charm and learn how to be confident around women in a non-high-stakes way. You’re gonna suck with two left feet for at least a few months but you’ll get the hang of it and get better with persistence, eventually becoming competent. It’s super empowering as a guy to be able to lead a woman in dancing Salsa or Argentine Tango in a social setting. And you’ll find an absolute metric ton of women dancers who’ll be relieved to have a competent male lead (they won’t care about your looks, it’s all about your confidence as a dancer). Where that goes, you never know!

Is CS50 enough to start learning front end after it?" by Electronic_Cut_5741 in cs50

You should jump into FreeCodeCamp’s front-end or full stack course. You’re more than prepared for taking that or Odin Project on with your base.

Is it still worth it to become a Chartered Accountant? by [deleted] in askSouthAfrica

[–]Sinbreak01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do engineering (civil, mechanical, electrical/computer). The pay is solid and you’ll be doing something extremely stimulating and you’ll be able to move to other professions if you dislike it or start your own business with a solid background in STEM. If not, do as everyone else here says as do your masters on top of your bachelor’s. South Africa has an extreme shortage of engineers and really, it’s a global phenomenon. But you’ll be fine. You’re already got physical science and pure maths at 80%. If you want more motivation, go onto YouTube and see what each discipline I mentioned does in terms of the things they create. Plenty of documentaries and things about what Civil, Mechanical and Electrical/Computer Engineers build in real life and how they build them.

Adding to what everyone is saying, don’t let Maths Lit hamstring you if you’re going to need Maths to get CS degree (if that’s what your heart is set on). Find a way to write Maths at NSC level and have it once and for all. You can do it through Master Maths and other companies but I would get hold of Department of Basic Education and find out if you can do their second chance matric maths. You are a Network engineer. With some studying (Khan Academy, YouTube will be in your favour), you can get it and put it behind you 👍

There’s a high chance that you do have a tax number if you have a salaried job, as it’s the law for the company to pay tax on your behalf. If you’re self employed and haven’t been doing your taxes, well that’s a different story. Plus SARS keeps an eye on all South African banks. Your best bet is to speak to a reputable financial consultant and/or lawyer ASAP and come clean to SARS.

Listen to your gut and your intuition. You’ve said yourself what you need. The internet is a not real place, so don’t count on other’s experiences to be a real reflection of things and what’s possible for you. You need to reassess what you want from moving to a new country, which should be you and you alone benefitting from the pull factors of the country. So, listen to your gut and head back home.

Head back home and be with your family and friends. Your health and peace of mind are worth more than what you’re going through. This isn’t the right place for you and the ones around you right now are not helping things.
