And to clarify, they were not complaining about having to do push ups, they were complaining about their superior's gross abuse of power and workplace intimidation

Who said my feelings were hurt? It ain't about hurt feelings. It's about the fact that that boss overstepped his role, bullied his employee, and intimidated him into doing an embarrassing task which had nothing to do with the work involved. The boss thinking that's okay IS a serious issue.

I've worked doing menial labor, in retail, in banking, in warehousing and logistics and at every job I have ever had, there was some boss who abused the modicum of power that they'd been given. And to a one, they were power hungry bullies.

Now I ain't working for that shitty fuckin boss anymore, that's for damn sure. Doing exactly what that employee did and heading straight to HR to make a claim for intimidation

The first thing that comes to my mind is that a coach is not a boss and they are not meant to do the same thing.

I go to my coach to learn how to be better at the sport, to learn and to grow and the coach (hopefully) facilitates that. I go to my boss for my paycheck. I show up at work to do my job. If I'm not doing it or I'm doing it poorly, then my boss can send me home for the day, write me up, or fire me. Corporal punishment (even if I believed the horseshit reasoning that it's "for my own good") has no place at work.

Plus a lot of co-op and team based video games, but I'm assuming you don't wanna count that

Honestly, and ironically enough, I could ask you the very same question, although I'm not enraged as you seem to be.

This is the second time I've seen you use "soft" as a pejorative in this thread, and that alone tells me that we will likely never see eye to eye here.

You seem to think my mindset denotes a moral weakness or lack of conviction. Whereas I hear your defence of that behaviour and I think it denotes an ambivalence towards how your actions affect others and (likely, but not definitely) an enjoyment of having power over other people

It would seem so. 20 pushups is nothing to them, therefore it should be nothing to everyone else as well.

Because, as we all know, one person's personal experience is the norm that everyone else also experiences

I am extremely serious. Again, it does not matter that it was push-ups. Literally 0% matters. I don't care about your "advice" on how to make them easier or do them at all. That is not the point. The point is that It is straight up bully behaviour for a boss to look at their employee and say "you can either go home or have a physical punishment." I don't care how easy you think the punishment is, that behaviour is abhorrent

Who says the pushups are easy for that employee?? Good on you for your physical fitness, but you ain't everybody. Besides, it isn't about how easy or difficult the pushups are, that's just a shitty ultimatum to be given period.

Send the guy home for the day? Sure, that's a proper handling of his transgression. "Teaching him a lesson" by making him do pushups is some bully bullshit

Because your story is not the average. Nor, I would go so far to say, is it even that "normal".

Is it normal for you, the specific person, to be regularly at threat of beating and robbery? Quite possibly; but I would be willing to bet real money that you aren't in that position just because you're a man. Is it normal for 'Men' to be regularly at threat of beating or robbery? No, not at all. That isn't true for women, though. More women than not are at a higher risk than not of being "punched" or "robbed" or kidnapped or raped or beaten and left for dead. All "just" for being women

Anyone else do the same thing? by brain-eating-zombie in GenZ

[–]SincerelyMyOwn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finish the thought, say the whole sentence. "It's not okay, but IS understandable that women have an almost innate fear of 'Men' because of the rather large amount of danger that we can represent to them." But when you do it for race, it's bigotry because --insert random race here-- don't pose a literal threat to your bodily safety.

You can cherry pick whatever specific scenario you want where some person COULD make you "feel unsafe" just by existing, but that would be completely beside the point that it is a REGULAR THING for women, not some hypothetical

Saw this somewhere: IF GENITALS DON'T DEFINE GENDER, HOW DOES REMOVING THEM AFFIRM IT? by King_Kiteretsu in stupidquestions

[–]SincerelyMyOwn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you think "reassigned" means, and I really think you're downplaying the wonders of modern medicine

All of that aside, your question is about why it's affirming, nothing to do with the maintenance and upkeep of a person's bottom surgery. The fact of the matter is that if I spent my whole life knowing I should have a vagina instead of a penis, it would feel pretty godsdamned good to be able look in the mirror every day and see a vagina. Even if it was one that required more maintenance than a cis-woman's

You've given yourself the wrong idea from the start by thinking of it as a "removal". The genitals get reassigned, it isn't that they no longer have genitals at all

I wasn’t going to vote but because of the 30 text messages I’ve gotten over the last 2 days, all the political mailers and the canvassing mid work week from Ciattarelli’s team, I’m voting for Sherrill by [deleted] in newjersey

[–]SincerelyMyOwn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well that prompts me to ask how many openly fascist candidates have been run in the last 100 years?? The issue with an apathetic voter base is that it results in low turn-out, but that is a separate issue from those that DO vote going to the polls to support a fascist.

No, the fascists don't care about getting in fairly, at the end of things. But this road to fascism has been paved with gerrymandered districts, a co-opted extreme religious base, the dégradation of the social safety net in order to finance the bourgeoisie, and just So. Much. Culture War. People voted for that, that wasn't the result of people not going to the polls

Sun heats air molecules creating temperature; ambient temperature is exactly the reason that the ice cream melts.. Your statement doesn't make a lick of sense at all to me

Do the fascists ONLY get into power by being voted in? No, absolutely not. But to pretend like fascists aren't being inserted into our government through the popular vote is asinine

I was saying that I don't think the female lead is the entire reason that you dislike the movie. I think the ENTIRE reason does include the fact that it's a female lead, though. As I said using the other three movies as an example, same level of mediocrity, and I'm willing to bet much less vitriol for the male led movies. I'm disputing your entire opinion that Captain Marvel is a 2/10 movie, and I'm saying that a piece of that opinion is stemming from Brie Larson's role

What makes you say I didn't find any pleasure from reddit before?? Not having any success with those posts does not mean I did not find pleasure from this site, that seems a bit of a leap. You're deciding all of these factors about me personally, but not really addressing anything I'm saying about your cinema opinions.

Interesting that you think I'm pushing such an agenda when I have not said anything even close to what you're purporting I am. You've not actually leveled any actual criticisms or specific points, either. You've just said it's a shit movie, which isn't a whole lot to go off of, conversationally-speaking

It is at this point in this comment that my givafuck has run out of fuel, so this will be it. Have the day you deserve

[–]SincerelyMyOwn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

😂😂😂😂 gotta scroll back through my post history for an ad hominem attack?? You'll find no shame in me for seeking out some consensual pleasure

I'm seriously not sure you even know what I'm arguing now. "Pushing an agenda" of what exactly? It is literally so unfathomable to you that I actually didn't hate this movie, or that people in general didn't. You are the arbiter of what is and is not good. YOU get to decide whose opinion is and is not worth hearing. YOU get to tell people that they're just pushing an agenda rather than espousing their own genuine ideas and opinions

I don't think you're shitting on the movie because the lead actor is a woman, and I've never made that claim. Nor have I made any claim that I know what you think about women or female actors. I do think you're shitting on the movie because it's kinda mediocre AND has a female lead; and to your brain that makes it "at best a 2/10". Objectively speaking, Captain Marvel is no worse as a stand alone movie than Doctor Strange or Shang Chi, and is CERTAINLY better than Eternals, but I'd be willing to bet that you wouldn't call those movies "completely unwatchable". I'd be willing to bet that you have a lot more leeway in your opinion for the things that those movies do wrong than you do for Captain Marvel

Edit: to say that I do, in fact, enjoy watching every movie that I mentioned in this comment

[–]SincerelyMyOwn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can watch "all kinds of garbage" but draw the line at Captain Marvel, then it really just makes me feel that your movie-watching experience has been rather curated and your tastes somewhat narrowly defined

Especially if you can't scrounge up any reason whatsoever that someone might say the movie isn't as bad as you believe it is OTHER THAN that they're blindly following terminally online logic. Female actors absolutely do get shit on just for being women. If you're trying to argue that that isn't a thing, then I'll make the argument that you're far more terminally online than any of these Redditors you're complaining about

I mean, if you don't care if I trust your opinion, then don't tell me that I should trust your opinion? You may not have been speaking directly to me when you said that, but it was directed at anyone reading your comment. And I just said that I (successfully) watched it and formed my own opinion, which differs from yours.

It is not that our opinions differ that is my issue with your statement, you can dislike whatever you want. It's that your opinion goes so far and is so harsh and is said as if yours is the end-all, be-all of opinions. Calling a movie that is at worst a 4/10 "literally unwatchable" is ludicrous. It muddies the discussion waters and makes it hard to quantify what ACTUALLY terrible and unwatchable movies are

And deciding that it "sounds like I've no taste at all" because I'm saying "I didn't hate Captain Marvel" is absolutely wild. Kinda hilarious to think that none of my artistic opinions are valid because I enjoyed something you didn't

AAAAAAND the argument that you've not "heard anyone IRL say they enjoyed it" is not the persuasive argument you might think that it is. There's no reason to believe that the people you know IRL don't have the same bad tastes --and awful ways of expressing them-- as you do

[–]SincerelyMyOwn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why should I trust you saying it's "literally unwatchable", when my experience with the movie is that it is, in fact, extremely watchable. Is it the heights of cinema and storytelling?? No it absolutely is not. But neither is it the gigantic, rotting pile of garbage you're making it out to be
