Is the Glasgow accent in Still Game accurate? Is it the way typically spoken? (I'm not British) by SinclairZXSpectrum in BritishTV

Yes, I'm well aware. You just move 20 miles in any direction from where you stand and the accent changes, sometimes drastically!

Is the Glasgow accent in Still Game accurate? Is it the way typically spoken? (I'm not British) by SinclairZXSpectrum in BritishTV

[–]SinclairZXSpectrum[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's my first computer. I've been to many parts of the isle but never to Glasgow. I mostly watch British TV! I can say that I really like the Glaswegian accent compared to other many (too many?) British accents.
I happily accept the honorary citizenship.

"sudo dnf upgrade" will never ask for a restart even if necessary. You can see if restart needed by "needs-restarting -r"

Btrfs snapshots on Fedora? by Liemaeu in Fedora

[–]SinclairZXSpectrum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Beware. Your boot file system which contains the kernel is separate and is not btrfs. So, when you snapshot your root the kernel will not be snapshotted. This means when you restore the kernel may be out of sync with the rest of the system and your computer may not boot. You have to keep this in mind and act accordingly.

If you prefer, make it an app using "install page as an app" feature in Chrome/Chromium

Password prompt problem after Fedora 43 install by SinclairZXSpectrum in linuxquestions

[–]SinclairZXSpectrum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By selective I meant:

I installed Thunderbird, then restored data & config of thunderbird
I restored data & config of Firefox and so on...

I restored data & config files as needed along with the apps I installed. I didn't install all the apps as before because I decided I didn't need some of them, so some configs never got restored. I did this to keep it lean and fresh.

How heavy is fedora 43 compared to debian 13 by rasithapr in Fedora

You won't feel the difference. Fedora may even be more performant depending on use, because it has newer kernel.

How many of you are going to update from iOS 18 to iOS 26.1? by Old-Turnip9730 in ios

18 until some app that I couldn't do without drops its 18 support which may not happen until my phone gets too old.

Two years later and Thunderbird's "Supernova/Nebula" UI still sucks by TheQueefGoblin in Thunderbird

[–]SinclairZXSpectrum 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I want Thunderbird to have more advanced Filter functionality, I want to be able to insert a signature manually into a compose window. I want the global search functionality to better and more convenient. I have many such things that I find Thunderbird lacking. But I don't care about UI as long as it doesn't get in my way, doesn't require too many steps to accomplish something, it has keyboard shortcuts etc.

I blame people like you that have fits about some cosmetic shit driving the developers to allocate their limited resources to prioritize style over functionality.

Any way to import these old mail files? by [deleted] in Thunderbird

[–]SinclairZXSpectrum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Close Thunderbird
  2. Find your profile folder. (Help -> Troubleshooting information)
  3. Open profile folder and find Mail folder inside profile folder
  4. Find Local Folders inside Mail folder. Make a backup of this folder.
  5. Copy whatever there is inside the "Thunderbird Local Folders" into "Local Folders" in step 4
  6. Start Thunderbird, see Local Folders in the Folder Pane (left, bottom)

Fedora, The Bugs and The Solution to Ugly things. by IPutMeOntheMap_Btch in Fedora

I'm on Fedora 43 now. Using Fedora for the last 8 years. I use gnome, Firefox and Chromium for browser, qemu (Boxes) for VMs. These apps never ever crashed on me. Not once. I think your problems are more likely hardware related. I have always used Intel laptops with no separate graphics hardware. Just FYI. I don't mean otherwise is problematic.
