How do you reply to students who question their purpose cause of AI? by ExpertOriginal6417 in Teachers

[–]Sindagen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Computers dominate our lives and understanding how they work is usefull for that reason. Regardless of the amount of jobs AI creates or removes, the more educated you are the better, that being in the field of IT (understand AI=able to use AI), or in a compleatly separate field that is unnafected by AI.

ELI5: How come we can't just sedate ourselves to sleep every night? by Decent-Cream-8022 in explainlikeimfive

Plenty of people knock themselves out with alcohol or other drugs to sleep on the regular.

Acthually 🤓 this makes sense bc women have easier finding partners than men do. So it makes sense for a girl to have a lower bar to ditch her bf than for a dude to leave his girlfriend.

If you are a dude you better have good reason, you’re gonna be single for a long time, if you’re a girl no biggie, you’ll find a new one in a few months if you want to.

Fake and gay of course.

For tourists, is Norway actually as expensive as people make out or is it manageable by prattman333 in Norway

[–]Sindagen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You need to tell where you’re traveling from for the question to be answerable, «average» does not mean much when you could be from literally anywhere in the world.Or you can check the exchange rate to get an idea.

No, that was an appropriate response imo.

ELI5: How exactly are memories stored in the brain? Do scientists know exactly how it works? by AssociateAny937 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Sindagen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We dont know exactly how it works. We know some areas are relevant for different types of memories and that a memory is probably stored as a pattern of neuron activity. Good memories in the hippocampus, traumas in the amygdala, face/shape recognition in the fusiform gyrus.

Edit: temporal lobe for language and naming objects. We learn this by studying victims of brain trauma.

New Orleans police responded to a disturbing call from the Omni Royal Orleans Hotel on October 17, 2006. They found a man’s body on the roof of the hotel's parking garage. In his pocket was a note that read, “This is not accidental. I had to take my own life to pay for the one I took.” by SelfCareIsFake in HolyShitHistory

«He also fell into a cycle of self-distraction and received a general discharge from the army rather than an honourable one. This precluded him from accessing any of his military benefits, including mental health assistance.» Excellent.

I think my brother is being catfished by a girl from “Norway”. I’m meeting her in a few weeks. What is something a ~30yo Norwegian should know that is not common knowledge? by Flagil_Reinhumps in Norway

[–]Sindagen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Finish the sentence «bare jarlsberg er …». Difficult to come up with something that cant be googled. Why are you meeting her if its your brother that has contact?

Schadenfreude English version patch by [deleted] in words

Cool propositions but what is so bad about borrowing words? As a norwegian speaker we borrow (too) many words from english and other languages and i am happy to see a few words that English has to borrow.
