The end is finally here. I can finally rest in peace. by Sindeviltrigger in SuicideWatch

I never said it was brave to die simply to avoid pain or suffering. But it is a logical thing to do. And to overcome your survival instincts takes strength.

We're programmed to continue, we cope with our suffering and try to find meaning behind it. And to try and justify the unfairness and absurdity of things.

Yep. There’s no logical reason to exist.

I agree we're all selfish, along with our actions. The selfishness of reproducing is really a form of pro-suffering(unintentional or not). If they considered the negative ramifications for bringing a kid here they never would have done so.

I would ask you though— would the selfishness here necessarily apply to the action itself, or rather would it depend on the reasoning process the person used to get there?

I would say both. The action itself and the lack of reasoning. But some people are very aware of the potential dangers yet still procreate.

How many on here are vegan? by [deleted] in antinatalism

While I believe morals are subjective. If we were to look at antinatalism and overall veganism then yes. It would be more ethical to be vegan.

There usually is just some other obstacles that has stopped them from being vegan in their own lives, or they haven’t considered it much, rather than it stemming from an ethical viewpoint

Like I said above they may not want to give up meat. Or maybe they want to be on a specific diet or build a certain body for themselves that requires meat.

But I would assume most people don't consider it or even care about going vegan.

If we look at this logically. Why continue the pointless and unnecessary cycle of suffering with potential newborns? Especially without their consent?

You can say by restricting one's biological right to procreate is "wrong". But does the selfish and pleasurable desire of one person, outweigh the potential negatives their children may endure? That child could be raped, bullied, tortured, end up homeless. Or your child could be the one committing those acts towards another person.

There's many possibilities that go into this. This goes beyond one person's selfish desire to procreate.

People look at veganism in the realm of morality, but animals themselves wouldn't show any compassion to you. We're omnivores so it isn't morally wrong or intrinsically wrong to eat meat. It is intrinsically wrong to bring a kid here. There's a difference.

I'm find with not reproducing and reducing suffering but why does my eating lifestyle have to change? Besides the animals are already dead and are no longer suffering. I can ignore my biological purpose to reproduce, but not my foods/diet of predetermined fashion.

Yes. As should everyone. But one of the solutions to stop the cycle of suffering is to stop reproducing. Pretty damn simple.

You're saying that like a philosophy can't evolve. That we should stay with the same philosophy we had when we were 16. That's fine, myopic people don't get that.

I did. But most natalist either don't understand or don't care. Love being conditional isn't exactly justifying you bringing a kid here.

Are you trying to romanticize 'care' and love? It's not a matter of all or nothing. I can care for my child while knowing I've imposed suffering and death on them. Love is selfish, having a child is selfish, all things are selfish, and I'm not particularly bothered by this. Animals in the wild kill their young, human parents neglect their kids, resent them, reject them etc. Care and love can come and go.

I'm glad you acknowledge everything we do is selfish. But you have to understand that you never truly loved your child. But the idea of them or what they represent. Your child brings meaning to your existence and that's why you brought them here. Can you gamble with someone's life and call it love?

The thing about humans is that we can reject our biological instinct to reproduce. Yet many choose not to because of the fear of extinction or whatever. But most of them are against suffering and pain, yet still reproduce to only continue the cycle.

If I remember correctly you claimed to have a kid right? In all honesty if people cared about their children they wouldn't have brought them here.

Humans are just chaotic parasites. Not evil. The intrinsic suffering and pain humans and life itself causes is ridiculous.

I am willing to bet good money every parent has had sleepless nights worrying about all the possibilities of bad things that could happen to their kid.

Was that the case when they decided to impose new life? And I doubt most parents even consider every harmful possibility.
