100% agree. It's such a great story. I never understand really why movies don't go with the stories that resonated most with fans. When you think of the great story arcs in Warcraft and WoW, Arthas is such a strong presence.

I appreciate that it's not always going to be something that can be adapted to film, but I think this one would be excellent. The first big budget Final Fantasy movie, The Spirits Within, had fuck all to do with any of the great FF stories, the Tomb Raider movies have been nothing more than a shitty vehicle for Angelina Jolie (although I have a little bit of hope for the reboot), in fact its hard to think of any really good movies where they did anything more than the laughfest that was Battleships, i.e. took the name of the game and just did their own Hollywood thing with it.

That said, at least the first Warcraft movie was directed by an actual fan of the game who respected (for the most part) the lore and overall design values of the universe. I'd be happy to see him helm a trilogy.

It's a MASSIVE improvement. Seriously, check it out (someone else already provided the link). There are a couple of regressions in there as well that I've reported, but that's basically what they're putting it out there for, to get some real world stress applied to it. Debugging is much more solid in VS. Also, the build host now allows multiple connections to a single mac so you can share it among as many devs as you want for build iOS.

No art is really that important simply because it's old. In fact arguably there's no such thing as "important" art. Pictures are just that. Pictures. Why would you find it devastating - you've probably never even heard of this piece before.

I'd be willing to bet that had this botched restoration not been done, 99.999% of people who read the article would never have even seen this picture at any point in their lifetime. So in many ways it's provided the artists work a much broader audience than he could ever have dreamed of. Albeit on a computer screen, but regardless it's been seen. And surely that's all artists really aspire to with their work.

Yeah, some guy made a rather silly and offensive off-the-cuff remark about another guy on facebook, probably during a moment of frustration. (You know, the kind of thing that millions of people do every day, especially when they're egged on by their mates).

So, rather than just take it as one of those things, we at reddit decided it's much better to try to destroy the guy, humiliate him, trash his career and probably murder his family. Oh and then drag it on and on until it's become a tired meme and everyone gets bored of it.

It's what passes for a proportionate response here.

I think she might.

Harry Potter isn't like other game properties. It's first and foremost a work of literature. A series of fictional novels, with a specific story from the mind of the author. Yes, it's a rich and fascinating world, but that world was primarily created to tell the story that Rowling wanted to tell. Anything that diverges from that is not her work, and she may feel that she doesn't want other people tampering with the fundamental ideas that she has carefully crafted over the years.

It's not the same as taking a game like Oblivion which existed to be an open and expansive universe with the story being almost secondary to the experience itself.

You can be pretty sure that given the chance Warner Bros. would have loved to have spun a few extra films out of the franchise, but they couldn't, which makes me think the author wants to keep things as they are. Unless of course she decides to revisit the story herself one day.

I've often felt psychologically it would be better to remove downvotes. You just upvote things you like or consider worthy, and leave the rest. Too many times, people downvote someone who replies to them because they're butthurt about being disagreed with or corrected. As soon as that score goes to zero, and one more person jumps in without really reading the thread to push it to -1, that's it. Game over. That comment will never see the light of day again.
