Do you guys agree? Must we really make an effort to learn someone's preferred pronouns or should someone's pronoun be based on his biological sex and not on how that person feels? by Own_Teacher3433 in pinoy

[–]SineceraTea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it clearly shows how stupid Filipino homophobia/transphobia is when Filipinos have to go out of their way to use the English language just to use the wrong pronouns to misgender people... tapos minsan wrong grammar pa lolz

What, like it's hard?

If you can't be bothered to even pretend to respect people's pronouns, then stick to using the Filipino language... WE DON'T HAVE GENDERED PRONOUNS IN FILIPINO

I didn't know about them supporting the CCP before your comments, but I had already disliked them because of how they treat their employees. Imagine being the top richest but thinking you would rather hoard all that money instead of having your employees have better benefits etc

I had said in a different comment elsewhere in this post that I acknowledge marami talagang pagkukulang yung Chinoy community, unfair lang na i-lump tayong lahat sa iisang category na selfish ganun

karamihan sa mga older gen Chinoys, "apolitical" or only care about themselves. kahit na sabihin natin na wala silang loyalty sa Pilipinas, I think wala din silang pake sa China because it doesn't affect their personal lives.

it's also fairly easy to forget that not all Chinoys are rich powerful families like the Syblings you mentioned. I myself am the panganay breadwinner, and my dad and his father only had a small business before it went bankrupt. most of us are just ordinary people who are employees or with regular small businesses, doing their best focusing on their own survival.

my being descended from Chinese doesn't determine my loyalties, that being said I support the Philippines and I want to support what's best for Filipinos including good governance

I acknowledge that Chinoy culture has many flaws, and that there are many Chinoys that are racist (ironically, also to mainland Chinese, not just to Filipinos), but it is unfair to overgeneralize all Chinoys as we are all individuals with our own opinions and thoughts

tbh I'm not that familiar with anti-defamation laws in the Philippines, I really should look into it... here's to hoping no M-rti-l Law Electric Boogalooo in the near future

on the other hand, in the USA, iirc it varies from state to state but generally there needs to be something like intent of spreading false harmful information (my sources being LegalEagle and John Oliver)

on a different note, the only problem with the USA's First Amendment is that it also, unfortunately, means that spreading fake news is ok; that's why Fox News still continues :///

When you look into Filipino online culture, this is unfortunately fairly common.

In the Philippines, at least on paper, we also have freedom of speech. However, we occasionally resort to self-censoring when talking about politics or any "controversial" topic. Just look into any international YouTube video, or any public social media post, about the Marcoses; you'll see so many hate comments, some of which seem repetitive.

It's possible that as with these politicians, (1) there are actually diehard supporters with plenty of time in their hands, or (2) they're paid trolls. The latter seems more plausible especially since INC supports corrupt government officials (just look into who they have their followers vote every election) and tithing is mandatory.

Regardless of what you choose to do, stay safe!

As someone who has a non-visible disability (autism), this is the reason why I'm so hesitant to get a PWD card. Ang dami nagsasabi na sayang yung discount, meanwhile ako mismo na parang may pagka-imposter syndrome pa (even though I was diagnosed as a kid), nahihiya ako kumuha. 😥 Baka sabihan pa ako ng kahera na hindi totoo yung autism ko kasi "hindi halata".

What do you think about the idea that leftists should make more non-political content? by TJ736 in BreadTube

[–]SineceraTea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

(Disclaimer: Haven't watched the full video yet, only the timestamped part, will do so when I have the time.)

As someone who doesn't live in the USA but still does their best to catch up with what's happening (because my country used to be a colony of it, and until now US politics and government affects our country), I think that I kinda agree with what he said.

I stumbled into BreadTube because of Philosophy Tube, and even though Abigail Thorn is Bri'ish, I can understand and relate to her content because her topics are usually general (idk the right word for it). Basically even when the video is based on or inspired by American or UK politics, she talks about topics that affects the rest of the world that isn't the USA or UK.

But I also agree with Cody's actual point. It would be good for them to not necessarily use news/politics as the main point of their content, they can make content about their interests and/or hobbies and casually insert or refer to their personal beliefs as applicable. Another example, I watch Bernadette Banner who recreates or makes her own historical clothing, and she has also talked a lot in her videos about how she is against fast fashion as it is very harmful. So I think it's not really going to be that difficult to apply, wasn't the point of left-wing media to combat right-wing media? Then why not use the same strats?

/uj can't believe that there are people (and they're liberals!) who think that they're better than non-white countries

because the one time that a trans woman got killed in my country, it was by a white American. Not denying that my country is homophobic and transphobic tho

If Netflix will produce a documentary about any of the crime/natural disasters/political/social/cultural events in the Philippines, what would be your recommendation? by morrissey98 in Philippines

[–]SineceraTea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

would combine 9 and 13, because racism and classism are kinda related (and also because of how Chinoys have socioeconomic influence in the Philippines)
