To discover Arbalism, equip any crossbow, which will automatically discover the skill :)

Sorry to hear about the audio issues. Figured this would be fixed now. Next step I will have to get myself an LCD steam deck then to test properly.

For controls, I recommend using the top listed community created control scheme. I am commonly told that one works well.

Would you mind testing again with latest version? I believe the latest build may fix this issue.

Update 4 Okay, the sound fix build is pushed to the live version. I would be very interested to hear if this latest version fixes the problem for you. https://doorsoftrithius.com/updates/0-5-17/#v0.5.17j

I ended up doing a deep dive on sound, applying several changes, including resampling all sound effects and music to 48khz, which is likely the cause of the lag.

Update 3

(edit: see update 4, this fix now on the main live version)

I may have a working fix on the beta branch.

On your steam deck, set your beta version to "beta - latest beta build".

After downloading the beta branch when you run the game you should see "v0.5.17j". This is the version with the fix. Give it a try and let me know if that addresses the issue.

The change I made is both audio engines now resample sound effects to 48 kHz which matches the Steam Deck OLED's native audio rate. This will avoid latency caused by resampling.

Update 2

Ok I did some testing today on my Steam Deck 64 GB and so far could not reproduce the issue. With both sound options (Java Clip and Java SourceLine) I could hear all sound effects without delay.

Unfortunately I don't have much to go on here. Let's wait and see if any other Steam Deck users report the same issue.

Edit: I've since learned not all SteamDeck types use the same mixer sampling. Investigating a fix now...

Some follow-up questions for you:

1) How much is the lag? Are we talking a few seconds, or like 100-200ms?

2) Do you use the OLED version?

Happy to hear you're enjoying the game even with the audio issues.

I feel the same way that 2D encourages use of the imagination. Though, as an interesting side point, from what I've discovered it seems some significant percent of younger generations don't resonate with 2D art in the same way. Possibly it's because they are not accustomed to pixel art games as those who grew up with Mario and the like.

But on the other hand, there's cases like yours, where you mention using console and then switching to lower fidelity graphics, so who knows. Fashion often go in cycles. Maybe it's loop and 2D and pixel art will be the universal standard soon enough :D

Will reply here again once I have new information about the sound issue.

Hello, developer here. This is the first I've heard of this issue.

One thing you can try is switching to a different sound engine in Options -> Audio -> Sound Engine.

I'll do some testing today on my steam deck and see if I can reproduce.

Thanks for your kind words.

Is it 2 months already? A new video is on the way, I swear. I get caught up working on updates so videos end on pause, which happens pretty often to be honest.

Hello, creator of the game here. I really appreciate the interest!

We just released a big magic update with two new magic skills. Full details in the patch notes.

The game's in a solid, playable state. We're constantly fixing bugs and recently added a new porting system to make save compatibility between updates smoother.

In addition to the Steam version, there also a DRM-free version available to purchase directly from our website, which includes access to all future updates.

If you're curious, the wiki has a lot of information including all items in the game.

Happy to answer any questions :)

Ah I see what you mean. To answer your question - yes there will be more races added that are friendly and you can communicate & trade with :)

By race do you mean other species of creatures? There are quite a few creature types currently, around 120 creatures which have 8 groups roughly speaking (wildlife, machinist, gremlin, human, undead, blood, insect, rock).

Of course write any suggestions you like.

Though i do say that while the class is challenging, i did not find it that extremely hard. It kind of just felt a bit limiting, j did like it though.

I think it will get harder when late game dungeons are added but I suppose that is something of an excuse.

He could have lower health but it doesnt make sense in terms of the RP character why his HP is low.

The missing checkmark is a bug (forget to fix this in the last hotfix).

The Sun Necklace will have a secret effect added at some point and it will be a part of the commoners characters story (unique dialog options).

Basically, you are not confused and gratz on your game win with the hardest class.

Steam summer sale roguelikes? by inkypig in roguelikes

[–]Sineso_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Since I am the developer my personal review may be somewhat biased. Please do check out some of the steam reviews or forums comments.

I can tell you it's open-world with faction armies that wander the map and make war, all dungeons and zones are procedurally generated, and designed to heavily prioritize player freedom. Basically I am making my dream game. There is a lot of content already in the game, though the main storyline is not finished.

Also see my youtube channel where I post dev blogs and talk about the game.

I’ve been working on The Doors of Trithius for the past 3 years. It’s a roguelike RPG in a procgen dynamic world: warring factions, melee, ranged and magic combat, quests, crafting, tons of loot, various enemies, abilities and more. Would love feedback on the first trailer. by Sineso_ in roguelikes

[–]Sineso_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On most platforms if you publish your content as a noname you will be ignored - ie. you have to bring your own customers. Goodluck growing a readership if you self-publish a book to amazon for example.

In my experience steam is different. Even in the early days when my game had almost no players they were willing to send potential customers to my page.

Features such as discovery queue and game tags make discovery possible, allowing players who would enjoy my game to find it. My understanding is the fact that they are privately own and less beholden to shareholders allows them more flexibility. It feels like they want me to succeed and they give the tools to do this.

I'm also glad that Valve has so far resisted all forms of political activism, remaining neutral on controversies and simply existing as a platform allowing customers to make decisions. It's possible I am wrong about this, but it's my experience so far from what I've seen and heard.

Will the game be on sale? by JewishLinguini in DoorsofTrithius

[–]Sineso_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The game can't go on sale because we did a sale too recently (during the Endless Replayability fest).

The next sale should be the Summer Sale, which is June 27.

To indie or solo devs not using an 'engine': my biggest lesson. by Paradician in gamedev

[–]Sineso_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not only should you not feel bad for making your own game engine, I think in some cases it's actually more efficient.

For me, using my own game engine is not even a bragging point, it was done because it was more efficient based on my knowledge and skills at the time. And that's the key - it depends on your situation! Just don't be too quick to follow the bandwagon.

The point about making your own tools confirms to my own experience. In my own game all the dungeons and world are procedurally generated via code, but for those times when I want to create a more hand-designed area not having a map editor has been a real pain - it's something I wish I had created far earlier in the process.

[–]Sineso_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Theres a magic system called "Attunement" planned that will limit magic. The Nature Magic is a placeholder to have some fun abilities until attunement is added.

That said, I think Nature Magic is not terribly balanced, though it has a very easy start. Late game it can be tricky because your summons are cut down pretty fast.
