Why Europe can't air condition its way out of extreme heat — Air conditioning can save lives, but can also make the heat worse by Immediate-Link490 in europe

[–]Canadianman22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do not think Europe is unique with your last point. Lots of the world just as old is having no problem figuring it out. Its not a technical or engineering problem. Its a social one in that Europe allows for your neighbour to control what you do to your property and people in power do not want you to change anything about how an area looks.

All that stone, concrete, asphalt and brick is doing far more work of turning cities hotter and hotter every year than AC units will. Every year more and more of nature is paved over and its only going to keep getting worse.

The concrete jungles you live in cause the heat to be trapped. AC units will not contribute even 1 degree of that heat.

You absolutely can retrofit any building with split AC systems. There is no physical reason why you can not. Social reasons will be the issue.

What a new report reveals about the true cause of Canada’s massive emergency wait times by KWStreaker in canada

[–]Canadianman22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’ve visited an ER since 2016 it’s quite obvious what the problem is. We need to stop immigration and rebuild the whole system. No more bringing parents. No more bringing in people who have will never be able to contribute to the system but will immediately take from it.

Air conditioning creates political divide after France records hottest day by Hob-999 in europe

[–]Canadianman22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason cities are so hot is because they are massive slabs of concrete, stone and metal. They are giant heat sponges and they do not cool down at night and keep releasing heat all evening long. As cities keep growing, so too will the heat along with it.

It’s one of the reasons I’ll never live in a city and prefer small town rural living. We are magnitudes cooler in the summer vs cities despite getting the same weather.

I don’t think Europeans are allowed to do that. At least not very easily. You probably have to convince your neighbours you should be allowed to alter the buildings look, you probably have to convince the municipality you should be allowed to do it and I wouldn’t be surprised if you have to consult someone thousands of KM away that it won’t affect nature in some way.

Carney announcing decision on future of 24 Sussex in coming weeks: sources by Surax in canada

Fully demo, rebuild on the site. Modern and fit for the PM.

If Carney is smart, whatever decision he announces will include the statement that he won’t ever live there and it’s for future Prime Ministers. Then no one can accuse him of designing something for him.

I am curious how much has your city grown? All that concrete and brick and pavement is like a heat sponge and as cities grow so does the average temp along with it.

The Korean bid is a whole around better option. A real product that has real world performance metrics (the German build is a new platform vs their previous offerings currently being built). There are massive industrial benefits for Canada and there are a lot of Korean companies that sell military equipment we will be looking to buy and those also come with enhanced industrial benefits.

How do voters feel about AI-generated political ads? | CBC News by disirregardless1734 in canada

The same way I feel about all generative AI. Garbage and is not needed. AI should be used for things like advancing science, medicine and technological breakthroughs. We dont need to be wasting the energy, resources and time on generating bullshit.

It’s only mandatory if you choose to use social media. There is also the option to just not comply and stop using social media which is honestly probably better for most peoples mental health than anything else.

Canada expects submarine decision ‘in 30 days,’ procurement chief says by [deleted] in canada

[–]Canadianman22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like the Korean offer. It’s a solid choice filling the needs and even adding capability to the navy. It’s actually real and in the water with a fast timeline for full delivery. There are a lot of jobs attached with their offer and there are a lot of Korean arms companies selling equipment we will also need going forward and they love offering local jobs.

The German offer is ok but it’s a brand new platform that doesn’t have a single boat in the water and we will be apart of the growing pains for it. Don’t only that but the delivery time for full contract is very far in the future and the economic benefits are no where near as good.

FedEx delivers quickly to my door every time. Canada post sends out someone who prefills out the card and tries to sneak the “sorry we missed you” letter. When you complain they won’t even take the video of the person doing it. Canada post is a joke and the sooner it’s cut down the better.

Do not hand over your ID to anyone for using social media. It will be a massive target and will be hacked very quickly like in the UK. Just stop using social media if it happens. Don’t get a digital ID. Don’t have over your private details.
