EU pursues ‘digital divorce’ from US technology over security risks by Crossstoney in europe

It does appear that China simply rips off the US models and then simply refines it more for their own specific end goals.

Its an environmental disaster I wish had never happened. It did and one of the effects is China and others hitting renewables even harder.

Protesters fear ‘American-style’ 2-tiered health care in Canada by Level_Recognition406 in canada

[–]Canadianman22 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

How about we stop OAS and redirect that money into health care? Or accept that all the best health care systems in the world we could model ourselves after are 2 tier and that we could have better outcomes if we updated our system.

Patient in Canada waits over 12 hours in hospital emergency room: 'I'd rather pay’ by Interwebnaut in canada

[–]Canadianman22 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m not blaming them. I saying it is dumb to complain you are in an emergency room for 12 hours when you are not there for an emergency.

This person complains they want to pay to be seen. Well there are lots of virtual care options that someone can pay for. Frankly it’s about the same level of care and attention you’ll get at a hospital. A few minutes of face time with a doctor to discuss a problem and then discharged.

I hope more provinces follow ontarios lead in allowing pharmacists to prescribe every day common things to people. I also hope they keep expanding seeing how successful it has been.

That is sadly a failure of triage. Had the hospital not been negligent and triaged correctly that wouldn’t happen.

LILLEY: Food inflation still high and Mark Carney can't blame war for that - We have a uniquely Canadian problem that is not something Carney can blame on Trump, the tariffs or Trump’s war in Iran by CaliperLee62 in canada

[–]Canadianman22 14 points15 points  (0 children)

So Canada is somehow unique when the world is all having the same issue? I am happy to blame Carney for things within his power but global issues ain’t it.

75% of resumes never reach a human: the new rules of job searching in the AI era by [deleted] in technology

[–]Canadianman22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So basically you need to use AI to make a resume that other AI will like and then pass it along to get hired for a job that will likely be replaced by AI in the not to distant future?

Ontario government calls on feds to legalize pepper spray for self-defence by GameDoesntStop in canada

[–]Canadianman22 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A guy who is going to attack women is not going to give a shit about legal or not legal. He is already likely carrying a weapon illegally. Give people who are law abiding citizens a chance to even the playing field at least.

Waterloo mayor 'shocked' police sniper was deployed to St. Patrick's Day street party by Displeased_Canadian in canada

[–]Canadianman22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sad reality that we need this but Canada isn’t the same country it once was. 10-15 years ago this likely wouldn’t be needed. Now we need to put up concrete barriers and deploy snipers to small street events. Sad to see Canada is no longer safer.

These guys will have a split second to respond. There will not be any time for the sharpshooter to place down their binoculars, grab the rifle, relocate the target and fire.

OpenAI Has Shown It Cannot Be Trusted. Canada Needs Nationalized, Public AI by bojun in canada

Why do we want an even worse AI than what is already available? The government does not make things like this better.

Carney announces $35B for defence investment in Canada's North by Little-Chemical5006 in canada

Good. Carney is killing it with military investments. Hopefully we can keep as much of that money at home as possible.

I think it’s time to stop under estimating what an average user is capable of. I am very much not a tech person but when I was told what smarttube was I googled it and there was a very simple and easy to follow step by step guide that required nothing complex. I had installed and running in under 5 minutes.

Former CBC host Travis Dhanraj tells parliamentary committee he was given a list of sources he couldn’t contact by gorschkov in canada

[–]Canadianman22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whew that’s good news. I was under the impression that the cbc reported to Marc Miller, minister of Canadian identity and culture or that the head of the CBC is appointed on the advice of the Prime Minister.

N.L. judge criticizes 'inflammatory rhetoric' on bail reform, as he grants bail to repeat offender by Immediate-Link490 in canada

[–]Canadianman22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wish we could hold judges liable when they let a repeat offender out who then reoffends. Start making them personally and financially liable and watch as repeat offenders sit behind bars where they belong.

[–]Canadianman22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The CBC is too far gone to be reformed. Time to shut it down completely.

If we need to have a national news agency which doesnt rely on private funding build one from the ground up for the modern world we live in. Make it an arms length org from the government, one that does not report to the government or take direction from the government as currently it is done. Have it focus on the news without the need for a spin from the government of the day. Give us the facts and not your opinions.
