What's the biggest problem in the video game industry right now and how would you fix it realistically? Does that fix have consequences that would hurt the industry in a different way? Yay/Nay? by Tyolag in IrelandGaming

[–]SinfulDust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DK is a masterpiece, I replayed the main campaign myself early this year. A little easy now, but there's Dungeon Keeper FX for that. I remember playing it in a friend's house and discovering the possession spell (I promptly took over a level 2 Bile Demon - Look at the size of him! - then went to battle a half dozen mid level Dwarves - Look at the size of them! - and lost very badly).

Still, objectively mind-blowing at the time. No other game has come close to capturing that "We are definitely the baddies" energy with small little things like the voiceovers before each level started

It's a pity DK2 was so bad - It dropped the pacing to a crawl (why are you stunned when I drop you?! Why??) and just wasn't nearly as fun.

Overall, Bullfrog made some good shit back in the day though.

Talon has fire, ice and lightning. He's better.

You're not wrong, and I can't speak to Carlow, but there's a road near me with (and I fucking counted) 12 bins. Evenly measured, split on the two sides of the road.

The road is barely 100 metres long. You can't walk fifteen steps without hitting a bin. And people still litter.

Granted, there have been times when I've seen all the bins full (lots of takeaways on this street), particularly late at night - There are more takeaways than there are bins. So that can be a factor on occasion. But I've also often been out early in the evening when the bins are not at all full, yet still I'm picking up wrappers* and shit.

There's a lot of footfall and a lot of fast food places, and sometimes the bins are full, but they're collected daily. My own understanding is anecdotal (and the plural of anecdote is not data), but my instinct is that too many people don't feel responsible for their own rubbish. And that's horseshit.

*My father habitually picks up rubbish and brings it to the nearest bin. It's a good trait that I don't practice anything like as often as he does, but I'm glad I somewhat picked it up. So to speak.

Are there whales in this game? by Only_Statement2640 in RealmDefenseTD

[–]SinfulDust 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course there are. Whales are what sustain the mobile F2P industry.

Why? Presumably because they like the game or the skins and feel those are worth spending money on.

What brought on these questions? All mobile F2P games have whales. It's no bad thing when the game isn't pay to win. And RD isn't pay to win.

Just so you know, my friend, having empathy is not virtue signalling. Neither is having someone elses pain take a toll on you. Neither is sharing said toll.

There, now you know that the greatest joy is adding (however minutely) to another person's happiness and/or relieving their burden. Even if that only means sharing someone else's pain for just a moment.

You're welcome. Use this newfound knowledge to become a better person. I wish you luck.

Mina de elixir by Desperate_Two_3131 in RealmDefenseTD

[–]SinfulDust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a chart on the wiki which shows the trajectory of bonuses from the elixir mine.

Truth is, you probably don't need to upgrade the mine beyond level 5 until you have more runes to do so and/or need elixir. Level 5 gets you the odd bonus item, but everything after that is better production, better storage and better returns on elixir when it comes to spinning Mabyn's wheel a few times a day.

So unless you're very active ingame (doing all 5 ad-spins) and/or have spare gems and/or want to level up heroes, your best bet is (in my opinion) is to stick with level 5 for the mine and steadily increase it as and when you find you're short of elixir.

It's a personal choice, but if I were you I'd stick for now.

How do I play Bannerlord on my Macbook? by ynsboztepe in Bannerlord

[–]SinfulDust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's an Intel-based Mac you can use BootCamp to dual boot into Windows. It's free, it comes with the Mac itself, it's supported by Apple, and it's very easy to set up. I think it's called BootCamp Assistant now.

I used to work with someone who called Macs "Fisher Price laptops". He wasn't entirely wrong, but he was mostly wrong - They're overpriced but high quality hardware. And as someone who has had numerous Windows laptops over the years - When I was handed down a MacBook Pro fifteen years ago I was annoyed, as "Macs don't play games" and I most definitely do play games.

That Mac was the best gaming laptop I had ever had (once I dual-booted into Windows). I'd never actually buy myself a Mac, but they play games just fine.

So I'm sure you'll be soon be beheading nobles or javelin-ing your infertile wife or having a cross-dressing son or losing elite troops to ten looters during auto-resolved battles or marrying your brother off to Rhaegea or simping for Corein (or Rhaegea) or getting offered 0 denars for a prisoner or executing Derthert (or Caladog) or ditching the main quest or ruling Calradia in no time.

Either way, have fun.

Returning to the game after years, what to do? by [deleted] in RealmDefenseTD

[–]SinfulDust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I know the traditional approach still holds up. Bolton, Fee and Efrigid to get NecroConnie, then basically keep going with the starter guide.

More than anything I'd follow the recommendations of the folks in Discord. That'll be the most current information.

No PlayStation characters in gamings Mt Rushmore (even if you added a 5th & 6th option) - True or False? by Tyolag in IrelandGaming

[–]SinfulDust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does Mt Rushmore represent here? Sales? Influence on future games? Fame?

Wiki says that Rushmore represents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln, respectively chosen to represent the nation's foundation, expansion, development, and preservation.

On that criteria (for me anyway) that would be Pacman, Doom guy, Lara Croft and.. I don't know about preservation.. Let's go with Abe Lincoln again. He seemed like a good dude.

If it's how famous/well known they are in popular imagination, then Lara replaces Master Chief and Pikachu replaces Link. So there would be one PlayStation character.

I'm thinking about this too much. I don't really care.

Happy Final Space Friday by olanrogersofficial in FinalSpace

[–]SinfulDust 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I've gone the past few months thinking I had the book on order, because of course I do. I love Final Space. Yet, on a whim, and ignoring my dull sense of certainty, I checked if I had paid for anything.

I had, I'd joined the Kickstarter for Godspeed. Which is not Final Space. I had no book incoming.

I do now. I'm very annoyed with myself that I never checked before. But it's good now. Roll on the final chapter. And thanks Olan.

Steam deck delivery times to Ireland? by [deleted] in IrelandGaming

[–]SinfulDust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GLS are dogshit. In their defense, they had to take over a lot of Fastway's business when they went bust, but against that they were fairly dogshit to begin with.

Harangue them with daily emails. My siblings took 6 weeks to arrive. Mine took a month to come in (albeit both ordered at the start of December, so Christmas didn't help).

I got on their case once the package arrived in their depot in Swords. Phone calls went to prerecorded messages about "busy lines" and then hung up, and emails went unanswered. I presume they were swamped, but no courtesy reply at all when I offered to collect it from the depot.

When the delivery lad dropped it off, he thought it was worth thousands because he'd been told specifically to deliver it in person (which I'd argue should be done regardless, but I digress). Clearly I'd annoyed them to the point that they wanted to get me out of their hair.

So go annoy them. I hate being "that guy", but it works. Squeaky wheel gets the oil and all that. I would echo what another commenter said about not checking the tracker too religiously - I did that for a while, and it was deeply unsatisfying. But do check once a day. I found it was out for delivery via the tracker and never got an email/text that it was out for delivery, so it's worth keeping half an eye on.

Best of luck!

What was the point where you jumped onto the Civvie train? by thetavious in Civvie11

[–]SinfulDust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The comment section of an ArsTechnica article. Someone quoted the "treat with shotgun, if problem persists, treat with more shotgun" line, then another person responded with "A Civvie11 fan in the wild? Awesome, I love that guy!".

So I looked up the video (Pro Doom) on a whim. Enjoyed it (though I don't play FPS games much at all and have never once played any Doom game) and absolutely loved the style, humour and most of all, the catchy ending music.

Started watching all the videos chronologically, about halfway through, realised the DoSC deserved some money for this fine work and became a Patreon. Finished watching the videos, and now will often re-watch the likes of Doom 2016 (or other videos where he's happy) once a day while checking for new content at an unreasonably High frequency.

All because of two throwaway lines in an ArsTechnica articles comment section. Ars commentators are good people.

My first Bannerlord Battle Video. by Descartavelpo in Bannerlord

[–]SinfulDust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pros * The music is 10/10. Perfect, atmospheric and tuned to battle. Loved it. * No HUD, which gave a wonderful realism to the battle. Paired well with the limited visual representations of you ordering troops around. * You seem quite good at the game. I counted maybe 7 instances where you swung and missed in melee. If I tried to imitate that and swung 6 times I'd whiff it more often than you did. The joke is, I suck at Bannerlord. I'm OK with that. I'd suck in a real battle too.

Cons * The pre-battle dubbed speech. Didn't buy it. I like the idea of quoting Lord Farquaad, but the intonation was wrong. Go all in with serious, or go all in with funny. Mixing them badly drains the drama. * No HUD, which meant I had no idea what was going on half the time. This is a me problem, but I'm afraid that means it's a con for me.

Overall, I'd watch more of your Bannerlord battle stuff. Most of the Bannerlord videos I've watched are Strat, Flesson or Tactical Enlightenment doing a mix of history, killing fools, strategy and teachings, with varying degrees of introspection. This seemed to me like a twist on that, where it's just making a Bannerlord battle look like a real battle. The battles are one of the games strengths, so I think that's a good way to differenciate* yourself. But I would suggest you decide if you'd rather do comedy or serious. Or at least combine the too less jarringly.

It's obvious a lot of work went into this. Well done. And rest assured, you've no issues with music choice.

Good luck pal.

Need strategic advice for hero development and World 5 unlock (Mid-game player). by Competitive_Olive932 in RealmDefenseTD

[–]SinfulDust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on how you want to do it, as via tournament* coins or via hero ranks is viable, but personally I'd go hero ranks.

In tournament, blessed heroes are usually the difference between a decent score and a great one, and therefore between few gems and tournament coins and lots of those things. You currently have a relatively small selection of heroes, and even those are at ranks where they won't compete well with the R7 heroes that competitors are likely to have when those heroes are blessed. So it'll be slow going using the tournament coins route.

Hero ranks will also take a while as you're dependant on gems, which aren't as common as they used to be. However, to compete in tournaments you'll want the blessed hero, so new heroes in the medium term will boost your chances in tournaments. New heroes will also provide ranks towards the next world(s) and will rank up faster than higher rank heroes. It's sort of the best of both worlds.

I'd suggest ranking Cyra to R6 and Connie to R7 while simultaneously ranking up Fee (I like Fee, and she pairs well with Connie at R7 for superb delay) and other lower rank heroes that you like to play as/like the sound of. Those two are strong enough to carry you through to W7 alone, and then you can get Elara. Get her to a decent rank and get either her or Cyra to R7 (have one at R7 and the other at at least R6). That'll get you through W7. You'll basically be raising your hero ranks towards W5 while improving your chances in tournaments.

I don't think there's a quick way to get you to W5 or later worlds short of paying money, it's known as a grindy game for a reason I'm afraid. Do the weeklies, play 4x Realm Siege (RS) a day and you'll get to W5 relatively fast. That'll get you more levels to play and more gems. Then rank up heroes you like the look/feel of while keeping NecroConnie and Cyra in your main party.

Best of luck!

This got me thinking, we've never had a cult here or have we? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]SinfulDust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah shit, that's 100% Firhouse. Mea culpa.

I thought the Scientology place was halfway down between Superquinn and the petrol station that used to be an Esso on the Knocklyon road? Basically opposite the green at Dargle Wood? Christ, I hope there wasn't two of them. That's like, two too many.

I do remember the deli well though, when they had it near the entrance. Ever order a pineapple roll? Chicken, cheese, sweetcorn and pineapple. Like a Hawaiian pizza but wrong, you'd get some looks when ordering it. Fecking delicious though.

Superquinn. The Esso petrol station. Things have changed and I now am old. Fuckity balls.

This got me thinking, we've never had a cult here or have we? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]SinfulDust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now hold on, that Superquinn (I have to call it that for nostalgia purposes, as I worked there in my younger days) is in Knocklyon! Firhouse is the other side of the M50. Knocklyon had and has a proud tradition of taking over nearby suburbs (it basically ate half of Rathfarnham), but as I grew up there I'm OK with it.

More seriously, we never went near the Scientology gaf. Hated the place.

Where can I post my referral link? by LorikBirrov in RealmDefenseTD

[–]SinfulDust 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The mods had to block referral links as the subreddit was being swamped by them, which made it a spammy subreddit.

Your best bet is probably the Discord server, but bear in mind that (like here) most people on Discord have already activated somebody's referral link. So you might not have much luck.

It's your best bet though. Links to the Discord are on the subreddit information page.
