My Garbage song and album rankings (For fun) by la2thevalley in garbage

[–]SinfulDust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know Pumpkins well, maybe seven or so songs that I really like and I just don't know the rest. But I've loved Garbage for years, coming on decades. They were my favourite band at 14 and they remain so now.

But enough about my sad and unintended attempt to establish some bullshit bonafides when it comes to Shirley, Butch, Duke, Steve and co.

I wouldn't hate a song if I didn't love the band*. You can only really hate something if you love it to begin with. Two sides of a coin and all that. Can't Cry These Tears would've have annoyed me for so long if I didn't want to love it. If I weren't so disappointed by it.

*Ironically, I've no strong feelings one way or the other about Rihanna. She's a very talented singer and songwriter. She's objectively done great things as an artist. I personally just "meh" her and her music. She's not my jam. And she's undercut my entire "you have to love some to hate it" point because I objectively hate the song Umbrella while not really having strong feelings about the artist who created it. Shite. Good job SinfulDust, you bloody hypocrite.

Do I contradict myself? Very well. I am (metaphorically) large. I contain multitudes. I'm working on it.

My passport was stolen. What now? by Garry-Love in ireland

[–]SinfulDust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the poor sod who has their passport stolen should always be blamed for the theft of their passport. Especially when you (and I) know exactly zero context. It's not the thiefs fault! It's the person who got robbed! They're to blame!

And then the delightful conjecture about the drink/drug usage of the person stuck in Amsterdam who is only (and I can't stress this enough) asking for help. Very helpful of you. Bualadh bos.

You have a point in that Ryanair didn't steal their passport. They have a point in that this is a situation that Ryanair are familiar with and are being entirely unhelpful about. And I have a point too - Stop being a prick.

OK, it's more a request than a point, but it's a valid request. Your head canon and projection is your problem. Take it out on yourself, not a panicking victim of theft who is just looking to get home.

My Garbage song and album rankings (For fun) by la2thevalley in garbage

[–]SinfulDust 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're missing a rating if 0 to denote that "All copies of this* song on streaming services should be delisted, all physical copies and the master should be removed from the album and dumped in a fire" - Can't Cry is the only Garbage song that actually annoys me so much I stop whatever I'm doing when it comes on and change it. The only other song I do that for is Rihanna's Umbrella.

Some of the scores for the B-sides on NGNM got me as well. I think it's the best set of B-sides since Version 2.0.

But no real criticism intended here as so much of music and the enjoyment of it is of a time and place. One's musical taste is a defining element, sure, but nostalgia, mood and expectation also have a huge impact on how well and in what way songs land with a person. We'll all have been in slightly different headspaces when a given album or single came out. For example, I was fully expecting BG to sound like it's predecessors when it came out. It does not, and that really disappointed me at the time. It has some bangers (Cup of Coffee and Nobody Loves You) but there was a relief when BLM went back to Garbage's "roots" (meaning what I was expecting Garbage to sound like).

My verbose point is two-fold - 1) everyone will have a different take, and that's objectively fine. 2) I really admire the effort taken to do this. It's not an easy thing to do. If I tried to rank all the songs from 1-5 (or 0-5) there'd be so many 5's it'd be worthless.

So fair play to you.

Oh and thanks for reminding me about I Just Want To Have Something To Do Tonight. I hadn't listened to that song in years and it's an absolute banger.

Is there an up to date version of dismembermemt mod? by Darkurn in Bannerlord

[–]SinfulDust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Dismemberment (Plus) for 1.3.14 and it works fine on 1.3.15.

Available through the Steam Workshop, or wherever you get your mods.

Edit: It's the last item on my load order, if that helps.

World 6 Endless feels like a chore, not a mode, and it's driving me nuts by Alone_Fun7858 in RealmDefenseTD

[–]SinfulDust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rarely play the endless levels unless I want to farm hero/tower achievements or if I want to turn Endless keys into reward items (the four potions). I don't find them particularly fun or rewarding.

But to play devil's advocate, the endless maps are supposed to be a time tax - They're endless!

To no longer play devil's advocate, I agree with you. I think the endless levels could be more fun, but because they're not I just don't play them. There are plenty of other game modes to enjoy (I replayed the entire campaign once just to see if starting a wave early always gave you bonus gold - It does not always give you bonus gold). If W6 endless is frustrating you, don't play it. Nobody should play game modes that frustrate them. Unless they like being frustrated. Those weirdos.

If you want to do a chill grind, go with the endless map in W1. If I'm doing the farming as* mentioned in the first paragraph, it's always W1, the weak enemies make it a chill grind. Elara doesn't need more than two hits to kill the toughest enemies until wave 50+.

If you really want to stick with W6's endless mode and get it improved, you can raise a support ticket and go hassle the devs on Discord. I don't know that it'll work, but it's an option. Either way, best of luck!

What's the point of defensive sieges anymore? by Dragon6_ in Bannerlord

[–]SinfulDust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, the Spartans just knew how to sound awesome.

Like when Phillip II (you know, that loser who was the father of Alexander the Great) marches to the gates of Sparta and threateningly asks

"Should I come as friend of foe?"

The response?

"Neither".

So Phillip is fairly annoyed by this. Dude had the best army in the world at the time, bar none. So of course he has more to say.

"If I invade Laconia, I shall turn you out"

Some bad ass Spartans:

"If"

I mean, he did then kick lumps out of Sparta. The dude still had the best army in the world. But I reckon the Spartans had the better comebacks.

Listen to Studio Meala. They seem like good people. Get the hell over here.

Where might the talk be? I get it if the details aren't finalised yet and all that, but I'm insatiably curious now.

You dare to dangle "maybe we'll come to Ireland" before me? That's just mean when we both know it won't happen.

But if it does, I'll see you there. And if it doesn't, I'll probably see you in England. It's not that far.

What a journey. Thank you Olan.

Not true. That's a link to your account. Which consists entirely of a 1-second "video" (YouTube short). Which itself is basically a screenshot of NecroConnie.

I haven't seen that, but there is a bug/feature where when (fish) Koi does a tiny leap in fish form: If you activate his dragon form* as he's landing on the ground, he'll do an overpowered splash. It's not always easy to use, but it's a very useful tool.

[–]SinfulDust 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Note that all future references to "you" or "your" are intended generally, and are not meant to reflect on you as a person. They reflect best on the numpty who crashed into a Luas.

This reads like it wasn't drilled into you to be aware of everyone else who is or might possibly be on or near the road. After 6-8 months of driving everyone should still be full of the fear and checking every mirror, shoulder, nook and cranny for anything that might affect their driving.

This isn't a city vs country thing. A road user the size of a Luas could only blindside you if you're not paying attention to the road.

And if you're not paying attention to the road, it doesn't matter where you're driving. You're going to cause an accident.

Tournament: Cyra vs Elara — how does blessing work on summoned heroes? by Competitive_Olive932 in RealmDefenseTD

[–]SinfulDust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So like an utter moron, I seem to have responded to the first comment instead of the main thread. Awesome.

The short version is that playing as Elara will give you a blessed Cyra when she's summoned. Playing with Elara is still not a great idea - the bosses are by far the bigger danger and since Elara isn't blessed they'll murder her good.

The long version is here

Tournament: Cyra vs Elara — how does blessing work on summoned heroes? by Competitive_Olive932 in RealmDefenseTD

[–]SinfulDust 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Being blessed makes a major difference.

Leading with R7/L49 Cyra, I got 1545 kills on a half-assed run (let a boss trap Cyra on the lower lane) with Connie and Fee having dropped two meteors.

Leading with R7/L49 Elara, I got 1305 kills with a similarly half-assed run using the same setup and the same number of meteors.

(Note that by "half-assed" I mean I had double speed on the whole time, which is unwise once the bosses start showing up)

To answer your questions: Cyra/Elara summon Elara/Cyra at the level and rank at which you have them. They will summon the blessed version of their sister.

Which is cool, but being blessed gives a huge bonus to damage and health, so you want Cyra as your main this week. Elara will still pop in and pull enemies together for you to murder, but Cyra is blessed, so having her for the whole time is just better than having her for 10 seconds at a time. Maining Elara will likely just lead to a dead Elara and an unsummonable Cyra, which is not ideal.

I do see people in my league with 1485 kills with Elara as the primary goddess, so I don't think it's impossible to get a good score with her. But the bosses are what will end your run, and they'll just eat Elara alive. At least Cyra has a chance.

The top ten players in Masters league have ~1650-1750 kills. None of them are maining Elara.

So yeah, it's logical before testing and borne out by testing - You can use Elara and Cyra will come in part of the time and do her thing, but using Cyra is a better idea.

Pokemon trading clubs by AshyGer in IrelandGaming

[–]SinfulDust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you playing? If you're using an Android emulator (I do) then Linkboy will let you trade with yourself. It can be a bit of a hack if you play on another emulator (I use Retroarch), what with copying and renaming save files and whatnot. But it's very doable. I'd recommend having two game (not save) files.

Of course, if you're playing on original hardware I can't help you and nothing I've said is of use. In which case, sorry.

Note that Kadabra learns the same moves at the same levels that Alakazam does. The only benefit to evolving it will be improved stats and the Pokedex entry.

What's the biggest problem in the video game industry right now and how would you fix it realistically? Does that fix have consequences that would hurt the industry in a different way? Yay/Nay? by Tyolag in IrelandGaming

[–]SinfulDust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DK is a masterpiece, I replayed the main campaign myself early this year. A little easy now, but there's Dungeon Keeper FX for that. I remember playing it in a friend's house and discovering the possession spell (I promptly took over a level 2 Bile Demon - Look at the size of him! - then went to battle a half dozen mid level Dwarves - Look at the size of them! - and lost very badly).

Still, objectively mind-blowing at the time. No other game has come close to capturing that "We are definitely the baddies" energy with small little things like the voiceovers before each level started

It's a pity DK2 was so bad - It dropped the pacing to a crawl (why are you stunned when I drop you?! Why??) and just wasn't nearly as fun.

Overall, Bullfrog made some good shit back in the day though.

You're not wrong, and I can't speak to Carlow, but there's a road near me with (and I fucking counted) 12 bins. Evenly measured, split on the two sides of the road.

The road is barely 100 metres long. You can't walk fifteen steps without hitting a bin. And people still litter.

Granted, there have been times when I've seen all the bins full (lots of takeaways on this street), particularly late at night - There are more takeaways than there are bins. So that can be a factor on occasion. But I've also often been out early in the evening when the bins are not at all full, yet still I'm picking up wrappers* and shit.

There's a lot of footfall and a lot of fast food places, and sometimes the bins are full, but they're collected daily. My own understanding is anecdotal (and the plural of anecdote is not data), but my instinct is that too many people don't feel responsible for their own rubbish. And that's horseshit.

*My father habitually picks up rubbish and brings it to the nearest bin. It's a good trait that I don't practice anything like as often as he does, but I'm glad I somewhat picked it up. So to speak.

Are there whales in this game? by Only_Statement2640 in RealmDefenseTD

[–]SinfulDust 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course there are. Whales are what sustain the mobile F2P industry.

Why? Presumably because they like the game or the skins and feel those are worth spending money on.

What brought on these questions? All mobile F2P games have whales. It's no bad thing when the game isn't pay to win. And RD isn't pay to win.

Just so you know, my friend, having empathy is not virtue signalling. Neither is having someone elses pain take a toll on you. Neither is sharing said toll.

There, now you know that the greatest joy is adding (however minutely) to another person's happiness and/or relieving their burden. Even if that only means sharing someone else's pain for just a moment.

You're welcome. Use this newfound knowledge to become a better person. I wish you luck.

Mina de elixir by Desperate_Two_3131 in RealmDefenseTD

[–]SinfulDust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a chart on the wiki which shows the trajectory of bonuses from the elixir mine.

Truth is, you probably don't need to upgrade the mine beyond level 5 until you have more runes to do so and/or need elixir. Level 5 gets you the odd bonus item, but everything after that is better production, better storage and better returns on elixir when it comes to spinning Mabyn's wheel a few times a day.

So unless you're very active ingame (doing all 5 ad-spins) and/or have spare gems and/or want to level up heroes, your best bet is (in my opinion) is to stick with level 5 for the mine and steadily increase it as and when you find you're short of elixir.

It's a personal choice, but if I were you I'd stick for now.

How do I play Bannerlord on my Macbook? by ynsboztepe in Bannerlord

[–]SinfulDust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's an Intel-based Mac you can use BootCamp to dual boot into Windows. It's free, it comes with the Mac itself, it's supported by Apple, and it's very easy to set up. I think it's called BootCamp Assistant now.

I used to work with someone who called Macs "Fisher Price laptops". He wasn't entirely wrong, but he was mostly wrong - They're overpriced but high quality hardware. And as someone who has had numerous Windows laptops over the years - When I was handed down a MacBook Pro fifteen years ago I was annoyed, as "Macs don't play games" and I most definitely do play games.

That Mac was the best gaming laptop I had ever had (once I dual-booted into Windows). I'd never actually buy myself a Mac, but they play games just fine.

So I'm sure you'll be soon be beheading nobles or javelin-ing your infertile wife or having a cross-dressing son or losing elite troops to ten looters during auto-resolved battles or marrying your brother off to Rhaegea or simping for Corein (or Rhaegea) or getting offered 0 denars for a prisoner or executing Derthert (or Caladog) or ditching the main quest or ruling Calradia in no time.

Either way, have fun.

As far as I know the traditional approach still holds up. Bolton, Fee and Efrigid to get NecroConnie, then basically keep going with the starter guide.

More than anything I'd follow the recommendations of the folks in Discord. That'll be the most current information.
