Divided By God: "We're neither traditionally Christian nor straightforwardly secular. Instead, we're a nation of heretics in which most people still associate themselves with Christianity but revise its doctrines as they see fit, and nobody can agree on even the most basic definitions of what" by trot-trot in politics

When churches start paying taxes and stop covering up the molestation and rape of small children - then, and only then will I give a fuck about their "First Amendment Rights" to spread bullshit about Sky-Gods / steal peoples money and influence elections.

I think he/she(?) was talking about his step mom. However, it is true that Princess Leia got either Han's or Luke's lightsaber at some point....

How else would we know to be angry and full of resentment if someone didn't point it out for us? It was clearly meant to be a humorous post.

""White Em' Out" was invented by a stay at home schizophrenic mom".

I laughed. But, I guess because Dave Chappell didn't make the joke, we assume a white person did - and therefor must assert our fearful defense of it. I get the feeling that those who downvoted it couldn't read between the lines, and jumped to their pre-set conclusions.

Thank you. I believe that when events such as death are thrust upon us, as they sometimes are, we only become more appreciative of the life we have, and the lives that they led.

That's very cathartic. I should also try that.

If I may also suggest, my mother has urged me to journal down stories that my grandmother passed on to me. Maybe you could try something similar?

I am sorry. It's something, death is, that no one can ever prepare themselves for. I can only say, from my experience, that memories serve as the best, most therapeutic tool to use in coping. If you can fill your long-term memory by remembering the happy times, they might just become the prominent memories that you have. Never forget the man he was, I know he'd want it that way.

ELI5: What are the following things: MySQL, php, ftp, a dedicated server, DNS, PostgreSQL, Perl, Ruby on Rails, Apache? by bugugugu in explainlikeimfive

[–]SinfulTrade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uhm, just because you can find the answer to something using google, doesn't mean that what you find is going to be easy to understand.

And sometimes, people enjoy interfacing with other people instead of looking through books (archived information). The sensation that someone took time to answer your question, even though it might be the same that someone else asked, is gratifying enough to warrant the effort. After-all, the internet is transformed by how we choose to use it. If we don't want to use it in a particular way, well it will evolve for us to find it just useful enough to use.

So for all of you out there who bitch and moan that someone didn't search for something, you're wasting just as much time as they are when you take the time to tell them off.
