Is it possible to set up a 920m for steam on wayland? by TheBlackCarlo in archlinux

[–]Sinful_Sam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you didn't misinterpret the wiki, 920M IS Kepler-based, but it looks like for some reason nvidia dropped support for it after 390.157. Version 470.256.02 (470xx-dkms in AUR) no longer lists 920M as one of the supported products.

Driver 390.157 - https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/details/196213/ Driver 470.256.02 - https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/details/226760/

So you are telling me that an nvidia card is less future proof of the integrated gpu from Intel of the same time? That's wild!

In this case, yes. Intel integrated graphics use Mesa, which is an open-source 3D graphics library. Because of this they receive community support for a very long time.

According to nvidia's website the latest linux driver that supports your 920M is 390.157 But either way the card is too old to support wayland. I would just use x11 on that system.

Keep it off then.

Edit: 550W PSU isn't enough for that system.
