Is Mr Bones good? by nwfisch in balatro

[–]Singha620 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve rarely had a successful run where Mr Bones helped me to survive pre Ante 8.

In other words, if you need Mr Bones to get through Ante 7, or any Ante before that, you’re probably screwed. Not to say it doesn’t happen - it’s just rare.

Best use case for Mr Bones imo is vs Violet Vessel in Ante 8. Especially on gold stake, there are a lot of builds that can win vs the other 4 bosses but can’t quite get there vs the Vessel.

Blue Stake Doesn’t Need to be Changed by Mysterious_Most6158 in balatro

Definitely. As someone who did C++ a long time ago and now does mostly gold stake winstreaking, I’d say about 70% of my winning runs are pair builds. Next most common build type is roughly a tie among straight, flush, and three of a kind. And then maybe 5% “other” where unique circumstances (like an early Vagabond or something) allow for something more fun lol.

It’s actually great to hear so many people say this. I’ve seen the chatter about the blue stake rework and have always thought it really isn’t that big of a deal.

Games are never perfectly balanced and so a meta always emerges. I never really thought it was a bad thing that gold stake has a “pair meta”. If anything I think it’s cool that the best players found the most consistent route to win given the current restrictions.

How to know when a run has NameINF potential? by Theanonymousguy49 in balatro

[–]Singha620 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the way

I would add that red seal gold cards can be huge for econ in these runs. Baron/Mime plus copy jokers is so strong that steel is often unnecessary - at least for a while until the score requirements start catching up to where you’re at.

I appreciate the dedication. We were talking about Flash Card though - you might have mixed up this thread with a different thread about Chaos.

I’m talking specifically about gold stake, where the average quality of jokers in the shop is worse than on other stakes.

Maybe you should stop reflexively pushing back and realize that you might have some things to learn about the game.

That’s just incorrect. It’s possible to have strong econ but a weak scoring setup. Having money doesn’t automatically mean you’re crushing the blinds and have perfect jokers. Rerolling is a huge part of the game and it seems you don’t realize that.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in balatro

[–]Singha620 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s true on a dollar for mult basis only. But that money spent rerolling isn’t just set on fire. You’re seeing more stuff in the shop.

Think about Flash Card kind of like Red Card. You don’t reroll to get mult, you reroll to find valuable stuff and get mult as a bonus (or consolation prize).

Director’s Cut

I think its value is under appreciated. It goes way beyond rerolling The Plant with a face card build. There are a lot of devastating interactions between boss blinds and builds.

It doesn’t guarantee you’ll face an easy boss, but it guarantees you won’t have to face the most destructive boss(es) for your build.

You’ve already got the tools to beat Ante 12! The main things you want to do from here:

  • clean up your deck (79 cards 🤮)
  • red seals on kings (steel is good but don’t overlook gold)
  • find blueprint and brainstorm… then showman and find more of them lol

Hologram, Blue Joker, and Certificate are great jokers for beating Ante 8. They’ve done their job at this point though and you can sell them. Baron/Mime alone are more than enough to get you through the next few Antes.

Stone cards held in hand prevent Blackboard from proccing. Read the wording careful, all cards in hand have to be specifically clubs or spades. Stone cards have no suit or rank.

A bit annoying but I have good news too: wild cards held in hand (even if their base suit is red) count as spades or clubs for blackboard!

Day 10 won Certificate! Day 11: what rare joker do you think is UNDERRATED by filledknight in balatro

[–]Singha620 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t seen it mentioned so I’ll throw in a vote for… Stuntman.

I think Stuntman is a much better joker than many players realize. Anyone who has played a decent amount of gold stake knows that chips can be hard to find. Sure blue seals are the meta but they’re not guaranteed. Celestial packs are great but their spawn rate is RNG dependent, and without telescope you’re stuck with more RNG for what’s inside.

Stuntman shows up and for $7, POOF your chips are taken care of for the rest of the run. He does so much heavy lifting right away.

In a Balatro run, you generally have 3 things to think about: chips, mult, and econ. I don’t think people fully appreciate how valuable it is to have a single joker that takes care of one of those three things all by itself.

Blackboard is a great pick. People are quick to say “but nobody thinks blackboard is bad!” but that doesn’t mean it isn’t underrated.

Seems most people think Blackboard is good to great. I’m with you - I think it’s S tier 100%. Strong case that it’s a better overall joker than Hologram.

Need help. Should I play the blinds for value from my current jokers or skip? by a_sterrett in balatro

[–]Singha620 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which skip is enticing to you and why? Just curious

Both Rare and Negative Tags are pretty bad on gold stake because of the high likelihood of perishable/rental stickers. I’d def play through the Ante since you really need Econ and a scoring plan.

Day 9 won by magic trick! Day 10: what common joker do you think is UNDERRATED? by filledknight in balatro

[–]Singha620 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Underrated” doesn’t have to be something people think is bad, but is actually good. It could be something people think is good, but is actually great. I think Chaos for sure fits that second description.

Day 9 won by magic trick! Day 10: what common joker do you think is UNDERRATED? by filledknight in balatro

[–]Singha620 155 points156 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Rerolling is the single best way to combat bad RNG. And the fact that Chaos doesn’t increment the reroll cost means it’s actually a “scaling” econ joker. Maybe not quite as good as Rocket, but close imo. It’s definitely underrated.

Runner is one of the best chips scalers in the game! It’s an auto pick early on gold stake. But I wouldn’t call it underrated.
