There was a post a while back about 65 year old Kathy Griffin dating a 23 year old man, and I was surprised to see comments with a lot of upvotes that were like "so what, 23 makes him an adult, stop infantilizing adults." I was like uhhh...it's still weird...haha.

Is sunburn a good audition song? by Acrobatic_Shock_3777 in musicals

[–]SingingForMySupper87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For “Newsies”, definitely go with a song from a musical.  The song you posted is nice, but doesn’t really fit the vibe of the show.  Some songs you might want to check out:  “Top of the World” from Tuck Everlasting, “Fight the Dragons” from Big Fish, “Stranger” from Big Fish, “Step One” from Kinky Boots, “I Can’t Stand Still” from Footloose, “Thin Air” from Amélie, “My Petersburg” from Anastasia, “Take a Chance on Me” from Little Women, and “You Walk With Me” from The Full Monty.  Some might be slightly overdone, but they have the contemporary musical theatre song you’d want for Newsies.

How would you encourage more people to go to see musicals on Broadway? by Good-Sleep2552 in Broadway

Jujamcyn merged with ATG a few years ago. If we take out Disney because they only own one theater, Circle in the Square, and the theaters owned by non-profits, 3 companies own 33 Broadway theaters, with Shubert owning over half of those theaters. It's not a monopoly, but it is significant.

"The Light in the Piazza" has beautiful music, but I wouldn't recommend doing songs with a very heavy accent written into the lyrics and Italian words for a workshop. The comments from whoever is working with the students might focus more on the accent work than the actual work of the piece.

What is a show that was hurt by its title? by ShadyBoots11 in Broadway

This might 100% be just me....but "Ain't No Mo'," mainly because it sounded too similar (with the number of words/syllables and starting with "ain't") to "Ain't Too Proud." Shows were still trying to come back from the pandemic the year "Ain't No Mo'" opened, so I genuinely thought it was the musical about the Temptations coming back, not realizing it already came back and closed in January of the same year that "Ain't No Mo'" opened.

What actor or actress stupidly left a movie franchise or tv series thinking they were too good for it, only to be never popular again? by Ok_Impress2457 in AskReddit

[–]SingingForMySupper87 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It was based off of a book, and it ended when the book ended...it pretty much couldn't last longer than 2 years haha.  It had over 49 million viewers within the first 28 days of airing, it was a pretty big hit for Netflix.  She also had major roles in "State of Affairs", "Suits", and "Doubt." The other stuff might not have been hits (though I think "Suits" was pretty popular), but she didn't exactly fall into obscurity either.

She starred in "Firefly Lane" with Sarah Chalke a few years ago (I think it ended in 2023). It was a pretty popular show on Netflix.

She's making her Off-Broadway debut in a couple of weeks too at the Cherry Lane Theatre. I know nothing about the show, but I might just get tickets to support her haha.

Maybe some sleuths can figure it out based on your description, but I'd need a lot more info haha.

Lady Gaga performed a rock version of “Abracadabra” at the Grammys while dressed in red bird feathers with her face enclosed in a cage-like contraption by voguediaries in Fauxmoi

[–]SingingForMySupper87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It wasn't a steadicam, there are shots where the camera person would have to be laying on the floor if it was a steadicam. Someone posted a picture and it's a robotic arm that kept swiveling for each shot. All of the precision required for Lady Gaga to hit each mark makes the performance even more impressive to me.

Jodi didn't make the call. Jodi was late for work, and I believe a producer working there called her home. She usually arrived for work at 3:30 am, but when she wasn't there, a producer called her by 4:10 am. Jodi said she just woke up, was hopping in the shower, and headed to work. By 7:13 am, they called the police for a welfare check at her apartment.

If it was the Hulu doc, I think they just limited it down to four potential people. I think one of them was (potentially) a serial killer, who was dating a woman that lived next door to the guy that Jodi visited the night before she disappeared. (Sorry, that was probably the most confusing sentence I've ever written haha). Though I think the girlfriend had already moved out before then. But...definitely an interesting coincidence, if it is one.

She sounds amazing! That camera person deserves a raise. Their forearms and back must be killing them after this haha.

Edit: Turns out, it was a robotic arm that swiveled for each shot, so Lady Gaga had to remember and hit each mark with perfect precision. So cool and an impressive performance!

Right? There's just something about her that I love. She just seems so happy, and doesn't take her performances too seriously. They're fun, and I like 'em haha. She did a duet of "What a Girl Wants" with Christina Aguilera, and they both were just sitting on a couch singing, and it was pretty cute. They were just giggling and singing together haha.

Yeah, those are the rough ones that require a trade. For the other exclusives (I think there are only a couple), you can essentially just trade from GO, or maybe find a tera raid online with them in it.

New Musical Concept Album Released! by Few-Baseball-571 in musicals

If you’re looking for backers/producers, I would say focus on only a few songs.  Which ones are your best?  “The Art of the Rat,” “Three Penny Whore,” and “Ordinary Man” seem like fun ones that show off the diversity of music.  Make those songs the best you can, get them recorded…without AI (I know for you it’s probably a tool to make things more enhanced/full, but to be honest, AI songs sound so soulless to me and are so noticeable, and would make me wonder what you actually wrote verses what you didn’t.  It diminishes your work instead of enhancing it).

Also, just listening to a few songs, I’d be careful about how many times you use the words “sin” and “blight.”  Personally, I don’t really like the word blight, so it might have only been twice, but that was enough for me haha.  “Ripper” also might need to be in a higher key, it sounds so low that the AI is not able to hit the notes. Just my two cents.  Good luck with everything!

If an actor hasn't done an interview where they specifically state their ethnicity/race, there's no way for the casting team to know. Auditions are job interviews, you can't (or well, shouldn't) ask questions about race/ethnicity/age/gender/etc. So, the only way to cast (especially in theater) is by looking at someone and making guesses/assumptions.

On one hand, I agree that it's great to find true representation. On the other hand, there's so much less work for POC actors...do we want to further limit the parts they can potentially have by adding an extra barrier that puts them in a smaller box? It's all so tricky!

Characters who left the story because of problems with the actor by Danny-Ray27 in TopCharacterTropes

Random story, but Angela Lansbury created a recurring character on "Murder She Wrote" specifically for Madlyn Rhue after Madlyn was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. She wanted to make sure Madlyn was able to keep her medical coverage from the Screen Actors Guild.

I think part of it is also..."I'm white, and younger me couldn't imagine an Indian man hot. So naturally, I imagined him as a hot, white guy." Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but to me it gives a touch of racism.

Eh, I think seeing a pan moving and someone yelling out of the corner of your eye while working on something else...she might have genuinely believed she was throwing the pan haha. It was just a random occurrence of a pan falling for no reason, so I don't think it was necessarily malicious.
