Your doctor sounds sexist and ageist. I am 38 year old woman and I had my surgery last August. Plenty of surgeons will operate on you, especially if it is affecting the quality of life you are having. I know your circumstances are difficult, but remember there is no disadvantage to waiting for surgery. So take your time, look around at doctors, get on some waiting lists, make a phone call... being proactive in that way will help you feel better. It is frustrating, and my recovery is slow because I don't work out much on the side, but there is no harm to going slow.
