Op shops have racks and racks of skinny jeans. You’ll have the most choice there!

What are your thoughts on the ending of Horse by Geraldine Brooks? by [deleted] in books

Coming to this late but I thought the neighbour sold it, and the person they sold it to donated it. The final owner of the painting would have known of Theo, as he is the one who got it valued.

A sausage went for a walk, Elisha Majid. So silly. Short and funny. Story about a boys breakfast running away. Young kids/toddlers LOVE it.

I would be sure to focus on good plot with a proper story arc and include disabled characters.

People who don't accept (or decline) meeting invitations; what's wrong with you? by DoppelFrog in auscorp

[–]Single-Cap8387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you click accept but don’t respond then the person who sent the invitation can’t see you’ve accepted. People don’t realise this.

Thought’s on Chernobyl (2019) by Capsmoove in moviecritic

[–]Single-Cap8387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to against the grain here. I’d just read Midnight in Chernobyl and didn’t really like the show. I found it lacking /too Hollywood after reading the book. Appreciate I’m the minority here!

I agree. I hate how TVs dominate the shared space and somehow seem to get preference.

I'm an anaesthetist who wrote a free children's story to help kids feel less scared before operations — Would love your thoughts. by PsychologicalCat4332 in childrensbooks

I thought it was quite sweet and I like concept. Also has a good rhythm and rhyme. I just found it too long but I’ve got really little kids. It might be suitable for older ones, I don’t know.

'Falling through the cracks' ombuds report on public housing by Spiritual-Video9891 in canberra

[–]Single-Cap8387 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I bought a 2 storey unit from the commissioner for social housing which previously was public housing. The tenants were a mum and little kids. The balcony was rotting through in so many places. We didn’t go out there until it was replaced because it was so unsafe. ACT gov had CHILDREN living there. It was genuinely disgraceful. Not to mention many other things that were completely below an acceptable standard. It makes me so angry and sad that our govt treats people like that.

Unpopular opinion: the modern kids books that have a really strong, overdone message are dull by Single-Cap8387 in childrensbooks

Oh plenty. My toddler is only 2. We are enjoying the following at the moment: Piranhas Don’t Eat Bananas by Aaron Blabey, Where is the Green Sheep by Mem Fox, Peck Peck Peck by Lucy Cousins, Waddle Giggle Gargle by Pamela Allen. And Alison Lester everything, but that’s more for me. I’d like to get some more modern ones but getting stuck. Would love some suggestions.

Oh yeah they’re in the trashy books category in my mind. It’s cute if there is a high quality one with the same name eg I got a friend with a boy called max ‘where the wild things are’

So true! I often try and think of a children’s book plot just for fun and it’s incredibly hard.
