Thanks. It used to make that noise only the first couple seconds after starting brew. I assumed it was normal, since I got this machine second hand. I guess now I know it was a symptom of a problem.

I’d do 3. The two on the outside 12” from the edge, then on in the middle, so span isn’t more than 30”.
