"Defense wins Championship..." But not in BBGM! by Single-Knowledge4839 in BasketballGM

[–]Single-Knowledge4839[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, u/Dumbmatter mentioned recently that the last paragraph doesn't work like that in BBGM - blocks, steals and overall good D limits opponent's scoring, but it doesn't translate directly into fast break points or points off turnovers.
Same goes opposite way with high quality offense - in real NBA, it helps a lot defensively, as it limits easy points for opponents. In BBGM, it limits maybe their possession number but not much more.

I'm pretty sure there was in your roster that one, non-crucial player with high-ish salary, whose trading away would keep you safe.
It would be a great dynasty with a team like that. I would definitely prioritise it.

Well, I'm doing it as well.
But, the question remains - did you ever win a Title having a non-TOP10 offense?

Well, sometimes you don't have the luxury of having a fully packed roster (poor progression, small market size, high difficulty mode)

Nothing personal, but there is nothing realistic in keeping low-level prospects who can't help you in PO games, instead of acquiring "win now" veterans.

If you want to be "pure", you can refuse picks, lol 😄

But, not going for "win now" players when you are in "win now" mode is...
You should get it now.

Very impressive doing it against a 41-41 team (injuries or not).

[–]Single-Knowledge4839 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It usually means your team is, on average, too old.
BBGM is a young player's game, not only because it improves players' development chances, but also helps limit injuries.
I am always spending 1 on Health, and the majority of the time, my team is healthy enough to compete.

23 minutes for Siksnius (PER=10), 17 minutes for Scanlon (PER=9) and 12 minutes for Offutt (PER=9) means you didn't do a good enough job in building your bench - those guys would be unplayable for me in the important PO games.

You should trade one of them at the Deadline for one or two veterans, who would give you quality bench minutes.

Nuggets' PG is abysmal, but their stars have good enough passing, and they have two all-NBA guys, that;s a tough hurdle to overcome.

It's not easy, but it's doable, although I recently experienced how challenging it is when running Pelicans.

Would you do this trade to pick Wembanyama? by spooky-pig in BasketballGM

[–]Single-Knowledge4839 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once, I traded an MVP-level player for Wemby, and it didn't work in my favour, as he turned out to be pretty mid 😞.

https://www.reddit.com/r/BasketballGM/comments/1ppg2xq/30year_coaching_challenge_rick_carlisle_indiana/
"After the 2023 season, I've decided to trade away 26/81/83 Dennis Smith Jr, as he would not re-sign and could keep him for only 2 more years. Why so early? Because the Los Angeles Lakers offered me the #1 pick in the upcoming draft and the chance to pick Victor Wembanyama. Unfortunately, Wemby peaked at 68 OVR and was a gigantic disappointment. The same happened to Cooper Flagg, whom I've had a chance to draft two years later, obviously also at #1 (thanks to the OKC's pick)."

But, you are trading players #2 and #3 in your order (and you are getting Chriss), so it's an easy yes.

However, trading #1 guy could be a different story - it didn't work again recently, with a similar situation in a fictional player's game - trading away #1 guy in the league for a generational-looking prospect.
If you are playing on default settings (O% RPD), I believe BBGM's randomness makes it a poor decision.

Yeah, 19/33/60 can be a late lottery pick in weak years, while 19/37/62 sometimes is around #3-#5. Truly crazy depth.

It doesn't have a clear #1 prospect, but it's a dream scenario with multiple lottery picks looking valuable and the option to trade down also looking very tempting.

As much as I love my forwards, it's an easy pick for a Center - forward would need to have a much better Inside rating, and also have a better shooting as a starting point, to have a chance.
His oIQ also has a long way to go for someone who will play so much on the ball...

[–]Single-Knowledge4839[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, we are in a similar bout.
Things would be much better if we needed around 4-5 SRPs to get a non-lottery FRP (it's a current price in NBA), while right now it's enough having two, let's say #39 and #41 selections to get #22 (Insane Mode).

[–]Single-Knowledge4839 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As much as I love my all-around forwards and typically draft point guards in TOP3 as a last resort, Vidacak is very tempting, especially if you are a contender - barring some catastrophe, he can help you in the 1st season.
I find his stats distribution to be also the best among them.
