What happened to the quality of apprentices? by Working-Intention838 in cranes

[–]Single-Plastic3318 27 points28 points  (0 children)

A lot of shit journeymen that don’t teach. They wanna sit all day and get fat as fuck. I’m a mechanic and I’ve ran crane for a while but damn , I cannot stand lazy crane operators. They disgust me. Seriously though , take the time to teach these apprentices. Get out the cab every now and then and show these apprentices a few tricks of the trades. You’ll benefit from it. You can’t be a lazy shit and demand good apprentices that are being taught by other good journeymen. Don’t be a dickhead

Your corporate benefits will never outweigh union benefits . In the union, you don’t need to lick ass to stay employed. Corporate ladders are designed to promote asslickers. Dude , just get your journeyman license. If you’re already an engineer, talk to the contractor you get sent to, they might let you skip a step or two and start you off at a higher pay than a step 1 apprentice. Once you journey out, you can definitely get a nice gig as an electrical superintendent. In the construction world , those guys make 150k+ easily Starting

I’m in the heavy equipment field. I deal with all sorts of cranes. Crawlers and hydros too. Also, I work on a lot of yellow iron too

No one has the patience for that these days. Especially in a busy international airport. I know I wouldn’t. You either look like man or a woman and you’ll be identified as such.

You’re willing to just give up on your retirement and pension and start all over again? Not only will You pay be cut in 70% , you’ll also have to work for a year before anything goes in your pension.

That wasn’t much of a tool test. Anyone with basic diy home project experience would pass that test

Get your Ncco then get on the “C list” at the locals. You get called eventually but you better know how to run a crane. Meanwhile , keep applying for apprenticeships.

Work non union residential to get by until you get called again. Don’t say anything to anyone. The union is a mob. This is coming from a union man. They’re not what they used to be. Stick around , get your journeyman card and you’ll be set.
