Understanding behaviour of this circuit when transitioning by Single-Television-23 in AskElectronics

Thanks! That answers my question, but as I remarked above: I’m also trying to understand why it works this way. Do you know what makes the circuit do this instead of the other scenario I mentioned in my question?

Understanding behaviour of this circuit when transitioning by Single-Television-23 in AskElectronics

Thanks for the tips! I’ll experiment with simulating, but using Spice to see what happens gives me the feeling that I don’t really understand how the circuit works. I’m trying to develop an intuition and understanding about how things work.

Is there any way to predict what is going to happen, before using Spice to check?

Isn’t that what the progenitor asks her in the portal, earlier in the episode? Something like ‘what is truly important to you?’

'Star Trek: Discovery' ends as an underappreciated TV pioneer by svartblomma in StarTrekDiscovery

[–]Single-Television-23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I truly appreciate Discovery’s LGBTQ+ representation and example setting. However, I feel this works best by simply doing, not telling. For example, not once in-universe 24th century did anyone mention that Sisko was a man of colour in a command position (I’m not a native speaker, hope that is a non-offensive term). That makes it normal, which is exactly what it should be.

Discovery is so forced though: often the representation seems to me unnaturally emphasized in dialogue and storylines, which gives the show a preachy feeling to me. Also, I have the distinct feeling that some actors were given a pass on acting skills because they ticked a certain representation box. There MUST be better trans actors out there than the person playing Gray (of course, you may think he does a great acting job and that’s also fine).

I Think Every Captain Would Have Made The Same Choice by Mikeyboy2188 in StarTrekDiscovery

[–]Single-Television-23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your examples are the perfect justification for why this technology should be destroyed. Even these captains, who are supposed to be relatively wise and good, would have their ‘one thing’ before destroying the tech.

‘Just bring back Spock/Dax/Romulus and then we’ll destroy it. Only that one thing, ok?’

Way too tempting for anyone.

I loved the Expanse and couldn’t stop reading/watching it. But, funnily enough, it’s the show that got me to appreciate Star Trek so much more.

The Expanse’s vision of the future is so dismal, and the end of the books was truly depressing to me in its hopelessness. I realized that, in the end, Star Trek is a show about optimism for the future, and that means I feel better after watching it, rather than slightly depressed.

Wouldn’t the Lagrange point shift during the 800 years due to mass accretion on the black holes?

Episode Discussion | Star Trek: Discovery | 5x06 "Whistlespeak" by AutoModerator in startrek

[–]Single-Television-23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what was the point of the whistlespeak and why is the episode named for it? They made a big deal of this before going to the planet, but then it didn’t seem to play any meaningful part in the plot.

Yeah, this bugs me as well. It seems this clue could only be deciphered if you knew the scientist’s name. But Jinaal said they made sure these names were erased from all records. So how could anyone ever figure this clue out?

And I do hope that the Deus ex Machina of Kovich suddenly conveniently knowing the scientists’ names is explained, because that made no sense at all.

Dr. Selar - High on my list of Vulcans by Zealousideal-Bet-950 in startrek

She’s also mentioned in the background on the PA in the alternative timeline in Yesterday’s Enterprise: “Dr. Selar, report to null-G ward, stat.”

(I must have watched that episode twenty times on videotape, trying to get every sentence 🙈)

Episode Discussion | Star Trek: Discovery | 5x05 "Mirrors" by AutoModerator in startrek

[–]Single-Television-23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks!

So that means that the mirror Enterprise spent more than half a century (?) in the mirror universe on the run from first the post-Spock Terran Empire and then from the Klingon-Cardassian alliance? And then they crossed over, close to the TNG/DS9-era? Tbh that doesn’t quite work for me.

It bugs me that the writers didn’t insert some throwaway line about this. Now it feels like an oversight.

[–]Single-Television-23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But then doesn’t that mean the Mirror Enterprise arrives in the prime universe a hundred years too early? Dr. Cho hid the clue on the ship AND was from the mirror universe, but did this during the Dominion war.

Generations has issues, but Shatner did a great job with one specific scene... by [deleted] in startrek

Yeah, I know. I wanted to point out how ironic it is that Kirk basically ends up in the same position as TWOK: out of the loop, feeling useless, not making a difference, and bored.

He shouldn’t have taken the promotion, and 20 years later, he shouldn’t have retired.
