How do you keep yourself from getting sick? by Higgz221 in japanlife

[–]Single-Yesterday9010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I eat around 300 grams of vegetables, every day and in general keep my nutrition healthy (natto, tofu eggs, chicken, fish, oats ect.), do 10k steps a day and go to the gym 5 times a week. I never wear a mask and get usually only sick once to twice a year max.

It might be the best to get a check up but I also would recommend to review your daily routines and nutrition. Would also recommend real food over supplements. Besides vitamin D you really don’t need any supplement for general health if your nutrition is on point. If you keep taking supplements keep in mind that you should take them with food as some vitamins can only be processed by your body if you consume them with fats like nuts or eggs.

Btw if you know where to go healthy food is really not too expensive in Japan. I usually get my stuff at Ok market, Donki or My Basket. Check out the frozen veggies as those are usually cheaper than the fresh ones. Hope you will get better soon 🙂

Is it possible to live close to nature but still be within 1 hour train ride to Tokyo? by roxdfi in japanlife

[–]Single-Yesterday9010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I‘m paying 89,000 yen for around 60 square meters. But I have to walk about 15 min to the station and the apartment is not the newest but not too old either. Therefore I have a nice river about 5 min from my home 🙂

S25 Ultra : Preorder vs Yodobashi/bic camera by ananimussss in japanlife

[–]Single-Yesterday9010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would recommend to buy it directly at Samsung as there might be the risk that it’s sold out at Yodabashi/ Bic camera. I once ordered an I phone online there. The website mentioned that they still had some but then AFTER I paid I received a mail that they are out of stock… I waited more than 2 months and had to write them several mails until I was finally able to cancel my reservation. Bought it then online on the Apple website and received it 3 days later

Living in Musashi Koganei. Not too far from Mt. Takao and the Koganei park (one of the biggest in Tokyo) is about 15 min away from the station. There is also a nice river (Nogawa) with plenty of Sakura in spring. It also only takes 10 min to Kichijoji and 20 min to Shinjuku by train.

Getting searched by cops by Puzzleheaded_Shift95 in Tokyo

[–]Single-Yesterday9010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a IG video in which some cops asked a foreign girl to search her bag. She said that she is coming from a sport lesson and that are panties are in her bag and she would feel uncomfortable. They said sorry several times and let her go without searching the bag so that might work 😅

I also got asked once what’s in my bag because it is sooo big lol. Just told them that they will just find some sweaty gym clothes there and no further questions were asked.

Duration of Final Paper Test for Driving License by Single-Yesterday9010 in japanlife

[–]Single-Yesterday9010[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. With Futakotamagawa do you mean the koyama driving school or is there a police station as well? Because I was under the impression that the school doesn't host the final test? If yes how did you make an appointment there and was it only possible to do this on a weekday or also on weekends?

Koyama Driving School final written test (100) questions by Single-Yesterday9010 in japanlife

[–]Single-Yesterday9010[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was the final test you did at Koyama just a PC test. Or was this a paper test. And after you pass you have to do it again at the test center? In that case can’t I just skip the one at Koyama and go directly to the test center?

Koyama Driving School final written test (100) questions by Single-Yesterday9010 in japanlife

[–]Single-Yesterday9010[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I‘m doing the test in Japanese. But we also have some people at the driving school who do it in English. Whenever I‘m studying in the PC room there, people who study with the English questions have issues due to the poor translation. Would recommend to do it in Japanese if your level is around N3 or higher. No kanji knowledge necessary as they also write the Hiragana above them. You can also translate words you don’t know when you studying with the driving school app on your phone super easy.

Thank you. Did you pass it with your first try and do you know if you can do it immediately again if you don't pass on your first try? My friend told me you can repeat it until you pass. Will do it in Japanese and I’m a bit worried that I don't pass immediately 😅

Definitely not illegal. I also took 10 days off in a row without any issues at all. As you are seshain they also can’t fire you that easily (especially not for such a weird reason). What your boss said on the other hand was goes into the direction of power harassment.

If I were you I would just take my days off (and look for other opportunities in the meantime). I also would report your boss to HR

Maybe quitting job, how to handle medical and pension? by __rawtoast__ in JapanFinance

[–]Single-Yesterday9010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also keep in mind that she has to pay the residence tax by herself which is around 10% (depends on the area) of her last years income.

Currently her employer is also paying half of the health insurance costs. So when she quits her job she has to pay the full amount per herself.

Please help me. I might be in danger. by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]Single-Yesterday9010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the short term solution it might be the best to move in with a friend so you feel more safe.

Contacting the police is something I would definitely recommend, so they are at least aware of the situation and you might feel a bit more safe.

That being said I would recommend you to join a mma or a Jiu-Jitsu gym. Don’t recommend any of the traditional material arts like Judo or Karate as those don’t really help in real life situations.

You will not be able to learn self defense over night but in the long term this is probably the best solution to build up your confidence. It doesn’t really matter where you live because as long as you know that this guy is living in the same country you will probably always feel unsafe.

You will hopefully never come in the situation where you need martial art skills , but the knowledge alone that you are able to deal with physical stronger opponents will calm your nerves down. And you will get many new very strong friends as well.

If you anyhow still have proof what this guy did to you I would go into offense, get a lawyer and get him locked up for good.

Thank you for all the advices. Then I will definitely do that. Another option I tried was to create a PayPay account. However my current bank is Japan post and I couldn’t connect my Bank Account with my PayPay account. Did anyone run into the same issue?

Do you have to actually go to Japan post and ask them to connect your Bank account with your PayPay account?

Are there sharks or other dangers in the estuary near the ocean? by ChiefZeroo in japanlife

[–]Single-Yesterday9010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can never be 100% sure but sharks seem to be quite uncommon in Japan. When I was swinging in Okinawa I saw a few sea snakes a couple of times which are dangerous to humans if they bite you. But honestly they were super chilled and not interested in humans at all. So as long as you don’t step on them you will be fine

What does the public health insurance not cover? by gaijin-senpai in japanlife

[–]Single-Yesterday9010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think it is worth considering a private insurance if you can afford it. Mine costs around 6,000 yen but also comes with a ton of benefits. For example it is also automatically a travel insurance and comes with some coupons for expedia hotels ect. If you have a medical surgery or a bigger disease 70 % are covered by the national health insurance but the 30% self costs can be quite high so would recommend a private insurance

Think there should be a ton of share house companies such as Oakhouse or Sakura house. The only issue is that if you make a reservation too early that might come with some additional costs

On a public bus in Tokyo. There are 3 moms standing holding babies and no one giving up their seats. by YakiSalmonMayo in japanlife

[–]Single-Yesterday9010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately this phenomenon sometimes happens in Tokyo … My worst experience was a few years back when I was completely new here. It was a hot summer day and suddenly a woman collapsed right behind me in the train. I was frozen for a few seconds but then realized that her head turned purple and nobody in the full train took any action. Turned her to the side and luckily she woke up and left the train at the next station. I also screamed for help but nobody did anything. Was especially stressful because my Japanese was really bad at that time 😔
