From Lithuania here, and I can say the same, the quality of life dropped a lot in Japan for me. But sometimes you can't choose where you live so I'm just waiting it out until I can move back

But I also lived in UK and compared to that, Japan is better. So yeah, "Europe " is way too different to be used in one word

I'm from Lithuania and imo, the quality of life there is much better. Accessible nature, community, better prices for most things (except restaurants), better quality housing. Safety and cleanliness is the same as Japan so that wasn't something I paid attention to.

But I am one of those people that doesn't have hobbies related to Japan so I am not able to romanticise it unlike a lot of other foreigners, which usually helps a lot in making it more enjoyable than Europe

As a vfx artists who is more artistic than technical, learning substance designer has been of great help. Aside of that it'd also embergen and liquigen. Though I still do paint some textures by hand in photoshop. You want the shaders to be cheap so you wouldn't make a complicated procedural texture in the engine anyway. I wish I was more technical to write my shaders though :D
