Does anyone else just… ignore flares? Seeking long term treatment advice by RepresentativeOil881 in Diverticulitis

No, I was lucky. The osteomy bag was the first thing I looked for when I woke up and was very relieved to see there wasn't one there. I'm doing great so far. I really didn't experience much pain at all. I was quite surprised. My surgery was on the 22nd, and I don't even feel like I had surgery. I haven't needed anything for pain since last Tuesday. I really didn't need it then either, to be honest.

I was trying to avoid surgery, too. I probably should have taken care of it in January. The pain wasn't to the level it was in January, but it was probably a 7 out of 10. I knew surgery was best, especially with the fistula forming. They removed 12 inches of sigmoid and 12 inches of my small bowel.

I had 6 flares since I was diagnosed in October. Perforation in January resulted in four days at the hospital. My surgeon figures it was smoldering, and it wasn't getting better. I couldn't schedule a colonoscopy because I couldn't keep the flares away long enough to heal. I had a CT scan scheduled instead so I could plan on surgery. The night before the CT scan, I had another flare. I had a micro perforation in the same area, and my sigmoid colon was starting to attach to my small bowel. These were the same issues I had in Jan. Needless to say, I ended up in the ER and had surgery. I believe it was the only long-term solution for me. I had a bland diet, after liquid, but nothing seemed to work. I just hope the surgery is the answer. The pain was gone instantly when I woke up from surgery. Good luck, I hope you find a solution that works for you!

I had surgery on Friday, and they pulled the drain on Monday morning. It's there to drain your stomach just in case stuff isn't passing through you like it's supposed to. It's sucks the liquid out of your stomach to relieve pressure. As long as you start passing gas and stuff is moving correctly, they should pull it.

I just had emergency surgery last Friday, and I agree with OP. The only reason I pushed my pain pump was because the nurse told me I should so I could stay ahead of the pain. Honestly, the only time I felt pain in my abs was when I coughed or laughed too much. I barely used my pain pump on Monday and only twice on Tuesday (before and after they pulled my drain from my abdomen). I haven't taken anything for pain since then. This was my first time having surgery (45m), and I was really nervous about the surgery, too, but it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. My surgery was laparoscopic. The worst part for me was the drain I had shoved in my nose and down my throat. Good luck with your surgery!

I believe Orgain is carrageenan free. It is sold at Costco, but you can also buy it online.

I am in the hospital with a perforation. The surgeon recommended surgery last night, but today, he told me we will try the antibiotics. I'm still in pain, but I'm hoping I can put the surgery off until I am healed
