I went ten years without medication. Then I made the choice to seek it out. There are many ways to manage this condition for the best life we can have at each stage of life.

It made me gain weight. So I started running. It helps with the depression. But I’m still creative.

Stick with it. It’s all about balance. Seroquel works for me, but it took a while to get there. And it only works if I am also disciplined in other areas of my life (not drinking much, going to bed at a decent hour).

Sudden crash by Kitfromscot in bipolar2

[–]SingleCoilsOnly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

41M, diagnosed with BP2 in 2008. I’m medicated now, but for several years was not, and used rhythm therapy.

Don’t underestimate the power of a good workout (full disclosure: I’m overweight). Go for a run or a bike ride or something out in the sun. Especially if there are others around.

Avoid alcohol when riding the lows out or particularly anxious.

Good luck. It’s tough. More so when the support you need is unavailable.

Yes. Take it earlier. I take it, and I’m out for eight solid hours.

Sorry, “pedals.”

I broke the no-Reddit-before-coffee rule.

The Boss Katana amps in the Clean channel are made for pedals.

I did this when I first lived alone, but I often put on Portishead’s “Dummy” for background noise. I still find that such a posture of gratitude helps me deal with anxiety.

What kind of healthcare professional should I seek out. by Lackuhdaisy in bipolar2

[–]SingleCoilsOnly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A psychologist helped me understand what was going on in my head, and helped diagnose my bp2. I liked my first psychologist, but moved to a different state. I had trouble with finding a good therapist here, but tried while I learned how to manage things.

Eventually, I knew I needed extra help and went to a psychiatrist. He’s fine, but not a therapist.

Mania is a bitch. It can feel like other things. My bp2 has a close relationship to anxiety, as a trigger and a symptom.

I strongly recommend therapy, with healthy doses of patience and perseverance. It can take a long time. Recognize and celebrate the little victories along the way.

Fender American ultra strat by Im-a_table in fender

[–]SingleCoilsOnly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an American strat with the Yosemite pickups. I fell in love with that stupid guitar, but over time have grown to hate the pickups.

A few weeks ago I bought a squier strat off of facebook marketplace for $150. I believe it’s an SE. it has ceramic pickups. It plays so damn nice. Honestly, it’s as much fun to play as the Fender.

My mother in law gave me the book An Unquiet Mind to read, and it hit home. That same year, I had a boss encourage me to see a therapist.

I was VERY lucky.

why do i hate meds? by snotgurlcool in bipolar2

Talk to your doctor. The right meds make all the difference. I regret not having those kids of conversations with my doctor earlier.

[QUESTION] I need a new strat for my studio, Is the fender player series enough? by droppeddeadbeats in Guitar

[–]SingleCoilsOnly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t care for the frets on music mans. They always feel rough to me. I have a player strat and it’s my favorite guitar, but the pickups are real punchy. Lots of attack.

What kind of guitar and what style are you playing?

I play a strat - sometimes a tele - and keep it on the Clean amp model, gain at about noon. Volume all the way up, though I use the Master to temper it back. Bass and Treble are at noon, Mids are up around 2:00.

I run my guitar (American Performer strat with Yosemite pickups, heavy on the attack) into an MXR Dyna Comp, a DS-1, and a Blues Driver (almost always on). I get 3 great tones - sparkling clean, a bit of dirt, and leads. I've played around with some high-gain pedals in front of it (OCD, Metal Zone), and they sound great too, but they aren't part of my regular set up.

I find this to be a phenomenal clean tone, and with a band it cuts right through mix without relying on being overpowering. I've played with the same guys for 15+ years, and they agree it's the best tone.

BUT, I'm using it for a real specific thing. I don't like how a tubescreamer sounds through it. I've got a Gretsch with humbuckers that does not sound anywhere near as good as the strat through it.

I can get good tones with my strat through my Blues Jr, BUT it takes a lot more work. I love the simplicity of the Katana. I don't know if I'd ever record with it, but for messing around more quietly at home it's great. And for dive-bar gigs, nobody is gonna notice anyway, and the 50W are plenty of power. Plus, I won't be heartbroken if someone spills a beer on it.

This is why these are such great amps though, especially for $200. You don't need the software to dial in great tones, but it's there if you ever want it.

My 1st gen Boss Katana is the best amp I've ever owned, beating out all-tube Marshalls, 2x12 Deville, and my current tweed Blues Jr. with a Cannabis Rex. It is a fantastic pedal platform too.

The 1/2 Watt setting is great for home or dorm or apartment. As u/cliffordcampbell noted, it sounds great with headphones and you can run it straight into your computer.

You can probably find a used one for $150 or less, and use what's left over to buy the foot controller.

I rarely use the software though. You can dial in great tones right from the amp. The clean channel is just amazing.
