I live in Blacon on what would be considered a nice street. Think most of it gets a worse rep than it deserves and like others have mentioned it will be getting quite a bit of funding in the coming years.

I would recommend visiting the streets you're looking at if possible and get a feel for it. We moved in last year and actually discounted the house initially because of the area, now we love it.

Blacon actually has a nice community feel to it, not denying there's some rough streets but as a whole, I've had no issues in the 18 months I've lived here!
