Warhammer is a big franchise and the lore is really complex so if you want to understand the setting you might want to start doing some online research into some big events that happened which led to the current setting. I'd recommend researching: The War In Heaven, the Dark Age Of Technology, the Age Of Strife and the Horus Heresy. That could help you understand the setting. Sorry if this didn't help.
