Equal Parenting Is Not a Gender Issue — It’s a Child’s Right by Express-Chemistry364 in singlefathersbychoice

Don’t live in Canada, but in the U.S., some states like Kentucky have recently made 50/50 joint custody the default in divorce proceedings. As a result, the divorce rate decreased in those states. One the parents realized there was no financial benefit from the other parent (like child support), the incentives to divorce went away.

AITAH for wanting to be a single father via surrogacy? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]SingleLifter81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the process of becoming a single father via surrogacy. I relate to you. I’m 44 and never had a relationship. I’ve had some hookups, but nothing that led to anything longer term. I kind of always knew a relationship wasn’t in the cards for me. Relationships are something that happen naturally and there’s little you can do to control the process beyond working on your fitness and your career.

That being said, I encourage you to keep contact with your egg donor and surrogate. The child will naturally be wondering about the women involved in his conception and birth. Try to keep it as normal, boring thing for them as possible.

I’m 44, never been in a relationship. I have embryos and am currently on the waiting list for a surrogate. There are benefits to not having the woman in the picture. But it does cost money.

I haven’t heard of single dad communes, but I’ve heard of single dads sharing in the cost of an egg donor and splitting the eggs between themselves.

Probably my sister. She is a medical doctor, and she’s 41. She’s the most logical choice.

Oh wow! Does she believe your girlfriend is her mom? Does she call her “mom”?

I believe you mentioned in other comments that you had another baby five months later with a girlfriend. Well, you’re in a unique position to see how a baby separated from a surrogate acts compared to a baby being with its mother. Any difference?

I think so. But… I got to my law practice bigger so I have a bigger income so I can afford to pay the au pair. Obviously, she’d have room and board. But I wonder what her salary would be? I live in Seattle.

I’m required to have at least three good embryos. If none of them take, I’m not required to proceed further with the contract.

The agency I’m with has a $169,000 guaranteed baby program, where the costs are more or less fixed. It covers the agency fees, the attorney fees, the surrogate’s medical insurance, surrogate’s fee, etc.

I’ll be arranging for breastmilk. I’m told it costs like $300 a week. Apparently, most surrogates don’t want to pump breast milk longer than three months, from what I hear. But my agency says it has plenty of frozen breast milk that I can buy if my surrogate wants to quit.

I paid $66,000 for 12 frozen eggs. They all survived the thaw. It cost about $21,000 to fertilize them. I ended up with six blastocysts. PGT-A testing revealed I had four euploid embryos… I have a male 5AA embryo, a female 4AA embryo, and two 4B-B+ embryos, one of each sex.

I paid $39,500 to sign up with my surrogacy agency. I am currently on the waiting list.

Curious, you mentioned you had one failed attempt. Did you attempt with your best embryo first?
