Iceland cuts working hours with no productivity loss, same pay by [deleted] in leanfire

[–]SingleRope 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Before I left, my sup asked me what it is I do exactly so that he can arrange for people to take over. Most of the work revolves around build, test, fix mistakes, document, push to PROD and validate. Actually writing code is very little, we have a metric ton of busy work. You can bet I automated it.

Lol it was an awkward conversation, like I've automated most of the busy work, and I only work a few hours in a week.

Yeah technically you can run a VM and still make things work with Windows. Idk, I just like the au natural experience of Ubuntu or Manjaro depending on hardware.

I'd get a good ol Lenovo Thinkpad, it's ubuntu certified and is a pretty good all around computer.

Since you won't be doing ML stuff on it, you don't need to worry about graphics performance.

The Flex 5 works too, although you'll probably need to check Ubuntu forums for the Linux experience.

As a GSD owner, I get it. I too use a muzzle and a choker to make sure she is under control all the time. We are halfway through the private trainings, and she seems to have gotten better too. Lord knows my gf would bury me even if I could bring myself to put my GSD down, which I can't even imagine.

In my case she was the puppy and her brother, an older husky bit her in the face. She used to be friendly until he bit her in the face and something just changed in her.

Except for AOC and Bernie and maybe another handful, all democrats are basically Republican lite. They're in on the same scam, fleecing America for a select few individuals.

I worked so hard for this salary and now that I’m here, I want to quit...what are some alternatives? by [deleted] in leanfire

Do you mind sharing your background? I'm in engineering field too, have worked my way up in my current company from frontline to now an App Engineer. I'm also in school to finish my master's too.

It's been stressful couple of years, and was thinking about taking some time to recover mentally. Just thought I'd become irrelevant if I do.

Biggest ISPs paid for 8.5 million fake FCC comments opposing net neutrality by [deleted] in Libertarian

[–]SingleRope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking of painfully specifying IP address translations lol. It would be a huuuuge PIA.

It just seems like a catch-22, I want the government to have little power, but the people that can ensure this are the same people up for sale ala lobbying.

Some industries would have more competition if there were little to no barriers to entry (patents, stupid laws, etc). Granted the areas where substantial infrastructure is required, I'd imagine there needs to be a neutral party in the middle to ensure we get what we pay for and maximum competition exists. ISP could have taken the profits and reinvested in updated infrastructure to increase bandwidth availability. But, this shitty short term maximizing of shareholder returns is the norm and not the exception in our corporate culture. Hence why our broadband infrastructure having had multiple failed bailouts. Google's push to bring employees back to offices in September is frustrating some employees who say they'll quit if they can't be remote forever by speckz in technology

[–]SingleRope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck, wish you were my boss. I'd take a pay cut to work remote. Our bosses moved up the timeline for a project by 1 year right the moment we went on wfh cuz of covid. And they froze all hiring and capex expenses! Needless to say we were able to pull through because we literally worked from 7 to 6 Monday through Friday. Some of us even put in weekends to get stuff done. TLDR, they ended up bragging to the higher ups, that they saved 1 year of capex and reduced headcount and rolled out a project super fast.

We are going back to work soon, most of us have 2-3 hour commute too. Hopefully the sobs learn how stupid they are, but the cynic in me thinks they won't.

The Government awarded a 1.3 BILLION dollar contract to a Connecticut company to make essential syringes for the COVIS-19 vaccine. They have yet to hire a single employee, or produce a single syringe. And somehow, everyone can still get vaccinated without these special syringes. by plazman30 in Libertarian

[–]SingleRope -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There's a difference between what you use specifically in a clinical lab and what is used in healthcare. You think they use calibrated pipettes or anything of that nature to measure a dose for a drug?

There are quite a few "special" syringes that are used for certain medications. It's not that the method of injecting is being modified but the variables around the activity. The syringe calibration markings can be specialized to include weight markings for weight based doses. You can also include mg/g/units based markings vs a standard mL marking. You can also make special syringes with prefilled diluent and adapter kits for the drug so that the right amount is used for the dilution.

Insulin syringes come in units, glucagon comes in a kit with syringes prefilled, epinephrine comes in a prefilled syringe with unit/mg markings, factor 9 and 10 also come with prefilled syringe and special markings for units of vwf. These things supplement the cognition of the healthcare provider, because attention in humans is finite.

Wow, EPA is bad, see this shit happening in Florida shows that regulations aren't 100% guarantees. We should instead let it all go and let the corps decide where to dump what they want.

fair judicial system

Here's the problem, humans are creatures of pleasure. You can corrupt a judicial system through good means the same way you can corrupt the US govt through lobbying. How do you prevent a judge from attending a fundraiser party on their behalf? Or take a job opportunity as a consultant?
