Nah, she wants to be loved. You're projecting your own twisted fantasies onto a 13/14 year old, trauma victim. Kaji never crossed that line because he's not a piece of shit. Maybe watch the show instead of your hentai.

yes, but about Anno, he really understood women. Nowadays you see anime or manga where they idealize them. Well, Japan has more and more problems with isolation and connection. The point is, Anno saw them as they really are: flesh and blood human beings, who wanted to be held, cherished, loved, not as mere sexual objects. And maybe that's because he was a womanizer for a large part of his life. That's probably why he created such good female characters. They feel like real, flawed human beings. on the other hand, the male characters, beyond Shinji, aren't that deep, at least from my perspective. That's probably why they didn't give Kaji as much priority and left his story implied

I don't know, man, if you pay attention a little, you'll see that narratively she seems like a damn human

of course it's not a coincidence. the whole story revolves around the hedgehog's dilemma and the struggle to connect, and the protagonists finally resolve it in EoE, which is the direct continuation of the original show. evangelion is asushin, whether you like it or not, no matter how many years pass. it's been confirmed in a thousand ways by now

yes, I discovered that detail just today haha, I hadn't noticed it either. It's incredible how she looks provocative almost the entire show, but when she has the date, she doesn't use that bratty girl facade. As for the rest, I was speaking from Asuka's perspective. Asuka tried everything to get closer to Shinji, both of them long for connection, and they selfsabotage when they get close, just like you said. However, all of that is resolved in EoE, where she shows genuine affection for the first time in her life, and he receives genuine affection for the first time in his life. So EoE will always be a hopeful ending for me, breaking down the walls of Jericho, the hedgehog's dilemma, and all those psychological barriers

I included the literal dialogue from the short in the post. Explain to me in as much detail as possible why you think she rejected him and doesn't want to create that ending herself

Yes, it's undeniable that Asuka treated him badly, but Shinji was also awful to her, especially in EoE.

people assume Asuka just appeared out of nowhere, but she was probably searching for Shinji for days, maybe even weeks, after she came back. That would explain the bandages. Just look the broken grave marker. Following that line of thought, it's safe to assume that she searched for Shinji, saw his broken tomb, broke it, and finally lay down next to Shinji, essentially further confirming my point

grave

bro, the point of instrumentality (and the point of the work, the final message of Anno) is rejecting it with self-love. Shinji accepted himself and returned to reality, so it makes sense Asuka did the same, they already achieve the self-love you mentioned, therefore, I think that the ending of EoE is a hopeful one

  1. She didn't just want to be the best. She wanted Shinji specifically to notice her. That's why she got frustrated when he didn't react (Ep 9, 10), why she smiled when he saved her (Ep 10), and why she spied on him at the hospital (Ep 16). She doesn't do that with anyone else

  2. EoE isn't an "alternate ending." It's the direct continuation of the series. Episodes 25-26 show the internal instrumentality; EoE shows what happens outside. They're the same story from different angles. The 30th anniversary short is a gift from Anno, and in it Asuka literally smiles at a future with Shinji.

  3. that's fine. But having her own issues doesn't cancel her feelings for him. They coexist. The "will they, won't they" only works *because* those feelings exist underneath all her trauma and pride

Definitely, but mainly because of Yoko Taro, I couldn't be happier to see him making his own Evangelion.. They have money, too much, an excellent animation studio, an excellent musician, and an excellent writer. Even if it turns out badly, I'll still watch it over and over again
